What will that used part actually cost?
A cheap part can cost more than you expect once fees are added. Compare what you will pay at checkout and what you could get back by returning your old part, often called a core. Ask about returns before you buy.
Compare two yard quotes
Use the amounts each yard quoted you. If you do not know a charge yet, leave it blank. We will show a total once you have filled in every amount. Enter 0 only when the yard confirms there is no charge.
A transmission price example from Prestige in Houston
Prestigeβs price list showed a transmission at $174.99 when we checked on September 9, 2026. The same row included a $14.00 environmental fee, a $19.99 core deposit and a $35.00 warranty charge. Together, those amounts came to $243.98 before tax. Ask which charges are optional, whether you can get the core deposit back and whether admission costs extra. This example comes from one yardβs published list; it is not a current quote or a market average. Operator price list.
Pick Your Partβs Chicago North and Orlando location pages each listed $3 admission when checked on the same date. That covers entry to the yard. You still need to check the price and condition of the part you want. Chicago source; Orlando source.
How the calculator works
The calculator adds the amounts you enter, so you need a quote from each yard, including tax. It cannot look up current prices or decide which fees apply. The core-return total assumes you get the whole deposit back. Ask about the return deadline and the condition the old part must be in. Remember to budget for tools, labor and travel; another trip to return a part costs money too.
We include the date we checked each published example. These examples cannot tell you what buyers pay nationwide or how much you will save. Check the linked yard pages for current prices. If you spot an error, send the yard name, a link to its price list and the date you checked it through our contact form.
Before buying
- Match the part number, engine, trim and production date; a matching model name is not enough.
- Check the condition and ask how an untestable part is handled under the return policy.
- Get the final price and the return deadline in writing, and keep the receipt.
