Pickup is available for large quantities in Pierce County and nearby areas, including near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).

  • Basic hand tools, if needed for part removal

  • A vehicle to haul parts (if applicable)

What They Don’t Sell

Calbag Metals Company doesn’t sell rebuilt or remanufactured parts. All parts come from salvaged vehicles as-is. Airbags, fuel tanks, and other hazardous materials aren’t available for removal.

Hands down some of the friendliest people in the scrap industry. I’ve been taking material here for over 15 years, and they just keep getting better. Listen up when Chris is weighing—otherwise you might leave empty-handed.

The folks who work there really know their stuff. Anyone leaving bad reviews just needs to get over themselves—everyone has a job to do, and they bust their tails. The employees do an awesome job and ought to be recognized for all the hard work they put in.

This is the easiest scrap yard I’ve found. The staff knows their business and spotted me as new right away, walking me through what I needed to do. Almost no waiting.

I made good money there once they got to know me, but last Sunday the sign said they were open and they weren’t. Might want to fix that on your site. Also, after a little experience, I see how often they nickel-and-dimed me for tiny mistakes—like downgrading my whole wire load because a single 2-foot coax cable was still rolled up in my bright #1 bucket, or calling my pewter trays “shredder steel.” It’s partly my fault for not paying attention, but it felt pretty shady to take advantage of people who didn’t know any better.

The team in Portland’s Calbag branch handled my first commercial load in Tacoma. They paid me half what other yards in Portland give for heavy prepped steel, and most everything else had a bigger markup than I’m used to. They also shorted us by about 1,500 pounds compared to our commercial scale. I wouldn’t go back—if you do, bring your own scale and stay while they weigh so you can fight for your numbers. They also misgraded nearly 15,000 pounds of 5052 to clip. Here’s the XRF breakdown I ran.

Honestly, the people here actually give a damn—no attitude, no rushing you out the door. They talk to you like you’re a real person, not just another car in line. Prices? Better than anywhere else in the area, no question. Yeah, it gets packed sometimes, but they move fast and don’t leave you hanging. If you’re selling scrap, skip the rest—this is the spot.

I showed up at 3:55 PM thinking I had plenty of time, but the guy at the gate acted like I was late. He said they close at 4:15 sharp—no exceptions, even if you’re still unloading. Who even closes at 4:15? I got my copper and left, but I’m not coming back. This place isn’t worth the hassle. ---

Watch out for this one. They hand you a check and say you can’t cash it for two hours. I waited two and a half hours, and Wells Fargo still wouldn’t take it. The pay’s decent, but only if you actually get the money in hand. ---

I got screwed over because I didn’t know what I was doing. By the time I realized, it was too late. Don’t bring your scrap here if you’re new to this—you’ll regret it. ---
