Edge Metals Recycling is a Tampa scrap metal recycler and auto salvage yard at 5120 36th Avenue South. Open since 2003, the business takes scrap metal, old car parts, and junk vehicles. Customers can sell scrap or browse the yard for used auto parts themselves. The yard handles common metals like aluminum, copper, brass, and stainless steel, along with steel (call ahead to check). Services & What to Expect

Customers enter, find the parts they need, and remove them. Tools for part removal are available to rent or buy. Common parts include engines, transmissions, doors, fenders, and interior pieces like seats and dashboards. Buyers check parts before taking them—no guarantees on condition. To recycle scrap metal, bring your materials to the yard during business hours. Scrap is sorted, weighed, and paid for based on current prices. Non-ferrous metals like copper and aluminum usually pay more than ferrous metals like steel. The yard follows safety rules for handling hazardous materials, including car batteries.

Edge is always my first stop when it comes to scrapping and recycling. They pay fairly, treat you right, and somehow stay smooth even when the scrap yard’s total chaos tries to throw them off. Never had a bad experience, and we keep coming back for more.

I took two genuine OEM catalytic converters from a 2008 GMC Yukon Denali XL 6.2L V8 to Edge Metals Recycling. They focus on auto cores and catalytic recycling but wouldn’t even run the GM serials for an accurate metal assay. Instead, they just gave a flat rate of $80 each. Real GM V8 factory units are worth way more (like $120–$250+) if you scan them right. If you’ve got high-dollar OEM converters, go somewhere that actually checks the numbers instead of sticking to bottom-dollar flat rates.

Way too disorganized, unfortunately. The guy who stopped by was friendly and pushy, but things kept shifting once we started talking. We’d hammer down an agreement, then suddenly it changed out of nowhere. We’d lock in container shipments to my yard, then that would flip last minute too. Hard to tell if he was just slammed or naturally this scattered and discouraging to work with. If you’re a new company counting on scrap income, look elsewhere.

This place runs a solid recycling operation. Sure, you might wait your turn to get in, but once you do, the staff there points you to the right spots for all your stuff.

Look, I get that junkyards aren’t exactly known for warm fuzzies, but Amanda at this place takes it to another level. The whole point of selling scrap is to get *some* of your money back, and sure, they’ll pay you—but dealing with her makes it feel like a punishment. I showed up at the window on February 7th like I was told, just to get a check mailed out later. Three to five days, they said. Ha. It didn’t go out until the 14th, and when I asked about it, she snapped at me like I was wasting her time, then had the nerve to say it might take even longer because of some holiday. I don’t care if you’re printing money over there—if you’re gonna handle customers, at least train your people to act like they don’t hate the job. (And yes, I work in HR, so I know what I’m talking about.)

I called this junkyard at least three times asking about the price of bare bright copper, and every single time they told me it was $4.50 a pound. When I finally showed up, I had to wait almost half an hour just to get told the real price was $3.30. Complete waste of my time and gas money. Not going back there again. ---

Zero stars if I could. The place is a mess—no organization, no safety, and it’s impossible to find your way around. I’ve been to scrapyards before, but this one was a nightmare. Took me three times longer than it should’ve just to drop off my load. The employees didn’t care at all except for the lady in the office. And get this—they don’t even show you the weight on the scale when you unload steel. How hard is it to display the number? Every other yard does it. Then, when I was leaving, some guy got pissed at me for pulling around him to exit. Oh, and there’s no parking to get paid—you’ve got to block traffic on the road. Ridiculous for a place this big. ---

I don’t go anywhere else. The staff here is the best—you pull up, unload, and they handle the rest. No stress, no waiting around. Just show up and leave with cash. That’s how it should be.

This scrapyard actually runs smooth—sometimes you’ve got to wait a bit to get a spot, but once you’re in, the guys there point you right where to dump everything. No guessing, no hassle. Works how it’s supposed to. ---

Don’t even bother coming here if you’re hauling a trailer. The workers literally tore mine apart, and the manager? Total scam artist. Wouldn’t trust this place as far as I could throw it. ---
