Services & What to Expect

J P Scrap is a self-service auto salvage yard where customers locate, remove, and purchase used auto parts themselves. Common parts available include engines, transmissions, alternators, starters, radiators, and body panels. The yard also buys scrap metal by weight from vehicles, appliances, and electronics.

How self-service works

  • Customers arrive during business hours and sign in or ask staff for assistance
  • They walk the yard to find needed parts or metal
  • Parts are removed using provided tools or customer-owned equipment
  • Pricing is based on part type, condition, and current metal rates
  • Payment is made at the counter before leaving with parts

What to bring

  • Cash or card for payment
  • Appropriate clothing and footwear for walking on uneven ground
  • Basic tools like wrenches and screwdrivers if removing parts yourself

Staff are available to help locate parts and assist with removal. The yard is functional rather than clean, so customers should be cautious when moving between vehicles and stacks of parts.

Tucson heat wasn’t my problem, but the scrap yard acted like it was. Brought clean structural aluminum—6061 grade, no junk mixed in—and they offered me $28 on a 108.34-pound load. When I asked why, they said it was worth scrap aluminum prices, maybe $10 tops. The guy charging me wouldn’t budge, so I figured I’d share my math and walk away. You’re better off going somewhere else if you want fair numbers.

Dropped by this place today and honestly it went smoother than I expected. The team was friendly and actually knew what they were doing. Nothing fancy, just straightforward and helpful.

One minute I’m showing up to settle a sale, the next I’m sorting scrap I’ve never dealt with before. The woman at the scale helped me separate yellow brass from the rest, but the tablet kept freezing every time she tapped the button. My weights showed 40 pounds of clean yellow brass at $2.26 a pound and 10 pounds of red brass at $3.00, but the red brass never made it on the receipt. Then I noticed “LG ELMO” on the screen—64.5 pounds of it at five cents a pound—but they never explained what that meant. I don’t bring tin or steel, just non-ferrous metals. After everything, I reached out to Roger hoping for a fix. He got back and straightened it out, so big thanks for making it right.

Look, it’s a junkyard—what do you expect? But the people running the place are decent, no-nonsense, and it’s got that small-family-business vibe. Prices are fair, and you’re not getting ripped off. That said, watch where you’re driving. Stuff’s everywhere, and if you’re not careful, you’ll ding your car. Saw a rusted-out Wall-E back there, so at least it’s entertaining. ---

My mom, Dorothy, asked me to leave this review for Scrap Metals Recycling, and honestly, I’m glad she did. The whole place runs on a shoestring, but Alexa—one of their employees—makes it work. She’s always juggling a million things at once, yet she never loses her cool or that warm smile that actually makes dropping off scrap feel less like a chore. The rest of the staff seems solid too, no shady business here. If it weren’t for Alexa, I’d probably take my scrap somewhere else, but she’s the reason I keep coming back. ---

The customer service here is top-notch. The owner’s a straight shooter, super friendly, and even offered me a job if I needed one. They move fast, no games, no hidden fees. The place is a little messy, but they stay open later than most—until 5 PM—and they’re open Saturdays too. Small things, but it adds up. ---

Absolute worst experience I’ve ever had at a metal recycling place. Went in for motors, compressors, and some copper, and left with a busted rear quarter panel because some lady backed into me. Management didn’t even blink—just acted like it was my problem. Place is a disaster, inside and out. Wouldn’t go back if you paid me.
