Mervis Recycling is a self-service auto salvage yard and scrap metal recycling center in Decatur, Illinois. Located at 1180 N 22nd St, the business sells used auto parts for nearly any make or model. Customers search the yard themselves to find parts for repairs or restorations. The yard also buys and processes scrap metal from individuals and businesses. Services & What to Expect

Mervis Recycling is a self-service yard, meaning you find and remove your own parts. The staff doesn’t pull parts for customers, so bring the right tools—wrenches, sockets, pry bars—to get what you need. You’ll find engines, transmissions, body panels, suspension parts, and interior components if they’re in stock. The yard also takes scrap metal, including steel and non-ferrous metals like aluminum and copper. Pricing depends on the metal type and condition. If you’ve got a junk car to sell, they may buy it for scrap, but call ahead to confirm their current policy.

The yard runs on a first-come, first-served basis during open hours. No appointments are needed, and you can browse at your own pace. Some tools like welders, compressors, or hand tools might be available for purchase or rent, but ask staff when you arrive.

If you’re unsure where to start, the staff can point you in the right direction for specific parts. But since it’s self-service, you’ll need to locate and remove parts yourself.

Need to sell a junk car or get rid of scrap metal? Mervis Recycling may be an option, but check with them directly for current rates and policies.

Walked in here and got the cold shoulder from the second I pulled up. Nobody even looked my way, let alone offered to help. When I finally found someone to ask where to go, they acted like I was bothering them—then got pissed when I parked in the wrong spot, which, by the way, wasn’t even marked. Had to drive around like an idiot just to get someone’s attention. By the time I unloaded, I was on my own. The whole crew just wanted to stay inside where it’s warm instead of doing their jobs. ---

Been bringing my scrap here for over ten years, and honestly, it’s never been better. The place is actually clean now, which is a first. The staff? Solid group—friendly, on top of things. Not like the old days when you’d get some attitude. Whatever changes they made last year really paid off. Wouldn’t go anywhere else. ---

Don’t waste your time here. The prices are a joke—called to check, but nobody answered. The lot’s a mess, and the people running the place don’t seem to care. Wouldn’t trust them with anything more than a bag of cans. ---

Dropped off a boiler, copper, and aluminum, asked four different people—including the supervisor—where to unload. Got $4.05. They called it "tin." The cashier had the nerve to say, *"You better go back and get that."* My mom’s on disability, recovering from hip surgery, and this is how they treat people? Here’s the receipt for 95% copper. Never coming back.
