Overview

Western Auto Recycling at 7481 Kearney St, Commerce City, CO

Western Auto Recycling is a self-service auto salvage yard in Commerce City, Colorado. Customers take their own parts from salvaged vehicles, including cars, trucks, and SUVs. The yard has been open since 1982, serving the Denver area with used parts at lower prices.

Services & What to Expect

Western Auto Recycling is a self-service yard, meaning you find and remove parts yourself. The yard stocks common parts like engines, transmissions, body panels, and interior components from passenger cars, trucks, and SUVs. Tools for part removal are available to rent on-site.

How Self-Service Works

  • Browse the yard: Vehicles are grouped by make and model, with signs for domestic and foreign brands.
  • Find your part: Walk through the yard to locate what you need. A parts catalog may be available at the office.
  • Remove the part: Basic tools like wrenches and jacks are often available for rent. You’re responsible for safely taking the part.
  • Pay at the office: Prices are set per part, and payment is made after removal. Some parts may require a core charge deposit.

What to Bring

  • Your own tools (if you have them) – the yard rents basic equipment, but bringing yours can save time.
  • Gloves and safety gear – salvage yards can be dirty and rough.
  • Vehicle paperwork (if needed) – some yards ask for proof of ownership for certain parts.
  • Cash or card – payment is made at the office after you remove the part.

Parts Available

The yard carries parts from domestic and foreign vehicles, including:

  • Engines and transmissions (common models)
  • Body panels (doors, fenders, hoods)
  • Interior parts (seats, dashboards, trim)
  • Suspension and drivetrain (control arms, axles)
  • Electrical components (wiring harnesses, sensors)

Inventory changes often as new vehicles are brought in. Call ahead or check the website to confirm if a part is in stock.

These guys are real jerks. I’ve been shopping there for years and dropped serious cash, but the father and son who run the place couldn’t care less. My dad tried to ask about a part, and they acted like he was bothering them just by asking. Then the son actually told my dad to go outside because he was “disturbing” him while he chatted on the phone. My dad wasn’t even loud—just checking if we could grab the part. Never again. Won’t set foot in that yard after years of loyalty.

Ordered parts upfront, showed up and they were busted—like, obviously broken. Tried to get my money back, but they wouldn’t budge. Absolute scam. Don’t waste your time or cash here. ---

The guys at this place were chill. Helped me find a truck back window, and when I asked a million questions, they didn’t roll their eyes or sigh. Now I call them first for parts—no hassle, no attitude.

Never actually went to this junkyard, but called for help and got an attitude from the guy on the phone. Asked about a car’s color and if they had others in different colors, and he acted like I’d insulted his grandma. Their website says the staff is friendly—yeah, right. What a joke. ---

Mike at Western Auto saved my Jeep project. Needed a bunch of parts to get my J10 looking sharp for an event, and he had a Wagoneer door with everything still attached—priced way better than anywhere else. Dude’s friendly, knows his stuff, and won’t nickel-and-dime you for every little thing. Other places? Forget it. They’ll charge you $300 for the same door. His yard’s small, but he’ll pull parts if you ask, and half the time, what he’s got is in better shape than the big chains. Been a while since I’ve been back, but I’ll be hitting him up again soon for more Jeep parts. ---

Needed a power steering pump and AC compressor—had both, and the prices were solid. Saved me a ton compared to other places. ---

Called ahead, and they knew exactly what I needed. The cars were all organized, so it was easy to grab the parts I wanted. My part was $20—other salvage yards wanted $50. The guy at checkout was friendly and even threw in the second part for free. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Next time I need parts, this is the only place I’m calling.
