A–1 Used Auto Parts: Peoria’s Premier Salvage Yard for Quality Used Auto Parts

A–1 Used Auto Parts has been serving Peoria, IL and surrounding areas since 1991, offering a wide selection of quality used auto parts and vehicles from their location at 2226 W Clark St. This family-owned and operated salvage yard specializes in recycling reusable automotive parts, providing economical alternatives when parts are no longer manufactured. With over 30 years of industry experience, A–1 Used Auto Parts has established itself as a reliable source for affordable auto parts in the Peoria area.

Establishment and Services

Operating as a full-service salvage yard, A–1 Used Auto Parts removes, cleans, tests, and inventories reusable parts from vehicles, storing them in warehouses for sale to individuals and auto shops. Their inventory includes engines, transmissions, body parts (doors, hoods, fenders), and other automotive parts that customers can search online or inquire about directly.

Services Offered Description
Used Auto Parts Sales Cleaned, tested, and inventoried parts from various vehicles
Used Car Sales Variety of used vehicles available for purchase
Cash for Junk Cars Purchase of vehicles in any condition with free towing
Same-Day Pickup Quick removal service for sold vehicles
Online Inventory Search Digital catalog of available parts for customer convenience

Unlike “U-Pull-It” yards where customers remove parts themselves, A–1 operates as a full-service facility where staff handles part removal, testing, and preparation. This ensures higher quality and saves customers the time and effort of extracting parts manually. Their business hours run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday, and they are closed on weekends.

Vehicle Types and Popular Parts

While specific makes and models aren’t explicitly listed in available resources, A–1 Used Auto Parts emphasizes reused parts from vehicles that are no longer in production. This suggests a focus on older or discontinued models. Client reviews mention parts for vehicles like a 1987 Camaro (2.8L engine), indicating inventory may include classic or niche models.

The most commonly purchased auto parts at A–1 Used Auto Parts and similar salvage yards typically include durable, high-cost parts that are cost-effective to source used rather than new:

  1. Engines and Transmissions – These major mechanical components are frequently sought after due to their high replacement costs when purchased new.
  2. Body Panels – Doors, hoods, trunks, and fenders are popular for repairing collision damage at a fraction of new part costs.
  3. Electrical Components – Alternators, starters, and power steering pumps are commonly sourced used.
  4. Wheels and Tires – Good condition wheels and tires offer significant savings compared to new purchases.
  5. Suspension and Steering Parts – Shocks, struts, and steering racks are crucial for vehicle handling and often available at salvage yards.

Warranty Information

A–1 Used Auto Parts offers 30-day warranties on most used parts, with specific conditions outlined in their policy:

Part Type Warranty Duration Key Exclusions
Engines 30 days from purchase Bolt-on parts, manifolds, sensors
Transmissions 30 days from purchase Seals, gaskets, accessories
Functional/Mechanical Parts 30 days from purchase Labor costs, installation expenses

Installation Requirements for warranty validity include:
– Proper cooling systems and oil levels must be maintained
– Filters, seals, plugs, and pumps must be replaced by the purchaser
– Unauthorized dismantling of heads/block or melted/removed heat tabs voids the warranty

The company reserves the right to void warranties based on the returned part’s condition, and does not guarantee exact mileage or model compatibility. No information about extended warranty options is provided in the available documentation.

Common Questions About A–1 Used Auto Parts

1. Do I need to prove ownership to sell my car?
Yes, junkyards typically require proof of ownership before purchasing a vehicle. Common documents include the vehicle title, auction sales receipt, mechanic’s lien, storage lot lien, or repossession affidavit. This ensures legal compliance and prevents fraud.

2. Can I sell a car with a salvage title?
Most junkyards avoid purchasing vehicles with salvage titles due to ethical concerns, as these titles indicate severe damage or total loss. However, some may still buy them for parts if the remaining parts are functional.

3. Is free towing available for selling my car?
Many junkyards offer free towing services to incentivize sales and allow sellers to retain the full payment amount. A–1 Used Auto Parts provides free towing and same-day pickup.

4. Do they buy “lemon” cars?
Yes, junkyards often purchase lemon cars, which are vehicles with persistent mechanical issues. These cars typically have usable parts that can be salvaged for resale.

5. Can I donate my car instead of selling it?
Some junkyards accept vehicle donations, particularly those involved in recycling programs. While you won’t receive immediate cash, donations may qualify for tax deductions.

6. How does buying parts from a junkyard work?
At U-pull yards, customers remove parts themselves using their own tools. A–1 Used Auto Parts operates as a full-service facility where staff handles part removal and testing. Prices are often listed on-site, and parts can be found through their online inventory system.

7. What happens to my car after I sell it?
Junkyards typically salvage usable parts (e.g., engines, electronics) and recycle remaining materials. Non-recyclable parts are disposed of in environmentally compliant ways. This process reduces waste and supports sustainable practices.

Bought a 2012 Chrysler 200 for my son at a very reasonable price a year plus ago and it is a great car. I’m now looking for another car and will be sure to see what they might have available.

Never notified car I cosigned for was impounded. Rude customer service. Car was auctioned off as i could not afford outlandish fees. My opinion, they run a barely legal car theft ring. They made $2300.00. I paid $3540 for a car I never drove. Regardless of personal situation, they failed to make sure i was properly legally notified. — edited to respond to owner. — Your response should tell everyone everything they need to know. Notice I said, barely legal. You were also rude and condescending in you response, just as the lady that answers your phone. The Laws need to be changed so the cosigner is legally notified and fees should not allowed to be charged until both parties have been notified the car is impounded. Once again, Legal or not, you people run a barely legal theft ring. You made $2300, I paid $3540 for something I never even drove. It is my opinion that you all are terrible and I wouldn't recommend or trust you to tow a tricycle. Have a nice day.

I honestly will never do work with these people again. They sold me a junk motor and “says they have a warranty” but when it comes to that they won’t do anything to help me. I’m out $650 for a junk engine. The lady I talked to on the phone was very disrespectful and was giving attitude the min she got on the phone. Cuttting a corner on cost doesn’t help in the end I’m warning everyone that is attempting to do business with this facility to save you time and buy new it may cost more in the beginning but the warranty on what you buy will be no ?’s asked at a parts store hope this helps everybody. “BEWARE OF THIS BUSINESS”!!!!!!

We needed to part with this big boy and no one else could tow it. Not only did A-1 Used Auto Parts tow it away in less than 24 hours, we were given a fair purchase price as well. We're very grateful for their service and curtious business.
