Overview

3 Sons Auto Salvage - Peru, Illinois

3 Sons Auto Salvage is a self-service auto salvage yard in Peru, Illinois. Customers can browse the lot, remove parts from junked vehicles, and pay by the pound. The yard follows a "u-pull-it" model—you find the part you need, take it yourself, and settle up at the scale. The business focuses on affordable auto parts for repairs and restorations, with a mix of domestic and foreign vehicles. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Sunday is closed. No appointment is needed—just show up during open hours to search for parts.

Services & What to Expect

3 Sons Auto Salvage is a self-service parts yard. You handle the work: locate the part, remove it, and pay based on weight. The yard doesn’t provide tools or professional disassembly, so bring your own equipment.

What You’ll Find

The inventory includes parts from:

  • Domestic cars and trucks (Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc.)
  • Foreign vehicles (Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc.)
  • Older models and classic cars
  • Common wear parts (engines, transmissions, doors, bumpers, etc.)
Stock changes often as new vehicles arrive. Call ahead if you’re looking for something specific, though availability isn’t guaranteed.

How It Works

Step 1: Visit during open hours. No appointment is needed, but arrive before closing. The yard is closed Sundays.

Step 2: Find the part you need. Vehicles are grouped by make and model, but the layout isn’t always straightforward. A quick walkthrough usually helps.

Step 3: Remove the part yourself. Bring your own tools, gloves, and safety gear. The yard doesn’t supply equipment or help with removal.

Step 4: Pay by the pound. Weigh your part on-site and pay in cash—credit and debit aren’t accepted.

  • A list of parts needed (include make, model, and year)
  • Basic hand tools (wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, etc.)
  • Gloves and safety glasses
  • Cash for payment (no cards)
  • A vehicle to haul parts (some are heavy or bulky)

What to Avoid

Don’t remove parts from:

  • Chained or locked vehicles (some are secured for safety or legal reasons)
  • Stacked or piled vehicles (risk of injury or damage)
  • Vehicles with hazardous materials (airbags, fuel tanks, etc.)
If unsure, ask staff before attempting removal.

Honestly, 3 Sons Salvage Yard is the real deal—fair prices on used cars and top dollar for scrap metal. Whether you're selling steel, copper, or whatever else, they pay what it's worth. No games, just good business. ---

Called these guys to haul away a car, and man, what a waste of time. The second I asked if they could hold off for a bit, they flipped and said forget it. After reading other reviews, I’d steer clear—no need for that kind of attitude. ---

Tried buying a part from these people, and it was a total mess. They made me send pictures of what I needed, then tried pushing a full engine harness on me when I only wanted the ignition coil. Then they asked for the VIN like it mattered—same part from 2007 to 2013, duh. Won’t bother with them again. ---

Saw one of their trucks speeding like a maniac on Shooting Park Road this morning—September 11th, 2024. Called the number on the side, and the guy who answered didn’t even care. I reported it to the Peru police, so hopefully someone follows up. ---

Their prices are way off—like, 3 or 4 times higher than other junkyards. No idea why they think they can charge that much, but I’m not paying it.
