Overview

Atlas Metal and Iron Corp. Aurora - Aurora, CO

Atlas Metal and Iron Corp. is a self-service auto salvage yard and scrap metal dealer at 2601 Chambers Rd in Aurora. They sell used auto parts, junked vehicles, and scrap metal to customers looking for affordable repair options or project materials. Unlike parts stores, this yard lets customers browse and remove parts themselves. It also takes scrap metal for recycling, making it a useful spot for both buyers and sellers.

Services & What to Expect

Atlas Metal and Iron Corp. handles auto salvage and scrap metal recycling. The yard is open to the public for self-service part removal, meaning customers find and take parts on their own. The inventory includes used auto parts from different vehicle makes and models, along with whole junked cars that may still have usable components. People can also bring old vehicles or metal scraps to the yard for recycling.

Self-Service Auto Salvage

The self-service model means you handle finding and removing parts yourself. Tools are usually available for rent or purchase on-site, and staff can answer basic questions or go over safety rules. Common parts like engines, transmissions, doors, bumpers, and interior components are often in stock, though what’s available changes with new vehicle arrivals.

Scrap Metal Recycling

Besides auto parts, the yard takes scrap metal for recycling. This includes old cars, metal scraps, and other recyclable materials. Pricing for scrap metal is based on weight and current market rates, which can change.

What to Bring

  • A valid driver’s license or ID for entry.
  • Cash or a payment method the business accepts (check their website for details).
  • Tools for part removal if you plan to take items the same day (some yards rent tools).
  • A list of parts or vehicle models you’re looking for to make your visit faster.
  • Gloves and safety gear, as the yard may have sharp or heavy materials.

What to Avoid

  • Removing parts from vehicles that aren’t marked for sale.
  • Taking parts that are already damaged beyond use (staff may check removals).
  • Bringing people onto the property who haven’t checked in.

If you’re looking to get rid of an old vehicle , Atlas Metal and Iron Corp. may be an option, though their main focus is parts and scrap metal. For vehicle sales or cash offers, check their website or call ahead to confirm their current policies.

The crew at this place is solid—no nonsense, just good help. I’m an electrician, so I bring in scrap wire all the time, and they always make sure I’ve got it sorted right before weighing it. Never tried to lowball me either; I walk out with what it’s worth. ---

No frills, no hassle—just straightforward metal recycling. Pull up, weigh your load, dump it in the designated spot, and weigh out. They hand you a receipt on the spot, then you cash it at their ATM. The whole thing takes five minutes, tops. ---

Hands down, this is the best spot for scrap in the area. I’ve been coming here for years, and even though they close earlier than some others, they pay the highest prices around. The guys who work there? Always on point—friendly, no attitude, and if you’ve got a truckload of heavy stuff, they’ll help you haul it to the scale like it’s nothing. ---

First time here, and it was a mess. I showed up with 350 pounds of copper and a few thousand pounds of steel, and I *told* them I needed to unload the copper first. Did they listen? Nope. Made me dump the steel first, then I had to reload the copper—350 pounds, by hand. After that, no one bothered to tell me where to put the steel, so I had to figure it out myself. And get this: every other scrap yard I’ve been to pays separately for #1 and #2 copper, but these guys lumped it all together, even mixing in 75 pounds of #1 with my #2 just to save themselves the trouble. Won’t be back. ---

I’ve been here a couple times, and while there’s usually a line, it moves fast—no sitting around. The only reason I’m knocking off a star is because I’m pretty sure their scales aren’t totally accurate. For aluminum cans, it’d be nice to see a digital readout instead of just guessing based on the old-school display. Small thing, but it bugs me.
