Banks Recyclers is a self-service auto salvage yard and scrap metal recycling facility at 1046 Conowingo Rd in Conowingo, Maryland. They sell used auto parts from junked vehicles, including cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, ATVs, and snowmobiles. Customers browse the yard themselves to find parts for repairs or restorations. The business also takes in scrap metal from individuals and businesses. It operates on a self-service model—customers locate and remove parts on their own, though staff can answer questions or help with tools if needed.

Services & What to Expect

Banks Recyclers is a self-service salvage yard where customers search for used auto parts from cars, trucks, motorcycles, and off-road vehicles. They also stock used tires and other automotive components. Unlike some yards, they don’t offer online part lookups, so visitors must browse in person.

Self-Service Salvage Process

  • No appointment needed: Walk in during open hours—no scheduling required.
  • Bring your own tools: You’ll likely need wrenches, sockets, or pry bars to remove parts. The yard doesn’t advertise tool rentals, so plan ahead.
  • Check parts before buying: Everything is sold "as-is," so inspect condition carefully.
  • Pay at checkout: Prices are per part, and payment happens after you’ve selected what you need.

Additional Services

Beyond auto parts, Banks Recyclers handles scrap metal recycling. They accept steel, aluminum, copper, and other metals for recycling or resale. Pricing is typically by weight, but exact rates aren’t listed online. If you have a junk vehicle to sell, check local scrap yards that buy cars directly.

What Parts Are Available?

The yard carries parts from a variety of vehicles, including:

  • Domestic and foreign cars (Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, Honda, etc.).
  • Trucks (Dodge, Ford F-Series, Chevrolet Silverado, etc.).

  • Used tires (availability varies—check in person).
Inventory changes often, so popular or rare parts may not always be in stock.

They don’t advertise a "cash for cars" program. If you need to sell a junk vehicle, try local scrap yards that buy cars outright.

What kind of parts can I find at Banks Recyclers?

The yard carries a wide range of used auto parts, including:

  • Engine components (blocks, heads, transmissions).
  • Body panels (doors, fenders, hoods, bumpers).
  • Interior parts (seats, dashboards, trim).
  • Suspension and drivetrain parts (control arms, differentials, axles).

  • Used tires (sizes vary—check in person).
  • Parts for motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and boats.
Inventory changes often, so bring a list and inspect parts before buying.

How does self-service auto salvage work at Banks Recyclers?

Here’s how it works:

  1. Arrive during open hours: No appointment needed, but call ahead to confirm.
  2. Browse the yard: Parts are organized by vehicle type but not always labeled. Walk through rows to find what you need.
  3. Inspect and remove parts: Use your own tools to take parts off vehicles. Staff can help with questions if needed.
  4. Check out: Bring parts to the payment area and pay per item.
  5. Load and go: You’re responsible for transporting parts off-site.
Tip: Wear gloves and closed-toe shoes—the yard can be dusty and have sharp edges.

Are tools provided at Banks Recyclers?

The yard doesn’t mention tool rentals, so bring your own wrenches, sockets, or pry bars. If you don’t have tools, ask staff if they offer rentals or check a hardware store nearby.

Can I return a part if it’s broken or doesn’t fit?

Banks Recyclers sells parts "as-is," meaning no returns or exchanges. Inspect parts carefully before buying. If possible, test-fit or measure parts before purchasing.

Parts Pricing

Banks Recyclers doesn’t list part prices online. Costs depend on:

  • The part’s condition and rarity.
  • How hard it is to remove (welded parts cost more).
  • Market demand (common parts are cheaper).
Customers should:
  • Ask staff for quotes on specific parts before removal.
  • Negotiate prices, especially for multiple parts.
  • Compare prices with other local salvage yards if needed.
Note: Prices aren’t guaranteed—confirm costs at checkout.

My old box truck was stuck in the woods behind my house, and I honestly didn’t think anyone would be able to get it out. But Lee Banks and his crew didn’t even blink. They kept at it, even when it took multiple tries, and finally hauled that thing away. The whole time, his office team stayed on top of things—checking in regularly, even calling to see how my husband was doing when he was in the hospital. Lee and Martha? Absolute gems. If you need towing or recycling done right, they’re the ones to call. ---

Banks Salvage made picking up my towed motorcycle stupid easy. The staff was friendly, answered all my questions, and kept me updated every step of the way. No hassle, no runaround—just good, straightforward service. I’ll be back if I ever need help again. ---

I needed a part, got a fair price, and didn’t have to deal with any nonsense. Every person I talked to was polite and professional—no hidden fees, no games. If you want a place that treats you right, this is it. ---

Called on September 8th for a truck part. The woman who answered said she’d call me back with a price. Hours went by, no call. I called again, and some guy said since I’d already talked to her, he couldn’t help me—she had to handle it. It’s now September 13th, and I’m still waiting. Don’t waste your time with this place.

I’ve dealt with worse, but this place left a bad taste in my mouth. They tacked on extra fees for no good reason, then said the owner would call me back. A month later? Still nothing. Maybe they’re great for some people, but my experience was messy and unprofessional. Wouldn’t trust them again. ---
