Cherry City Metals at 3155 Kanz Ct NE, Salem, OR

Cherry City Metals is a self-service auto salvage yard and scrap metal dealer in Salem. Located at 3155 Kanz Ct NE, the yard lets customers remove parts from salvaged vehicles on their own. They also buy and sell scrap metal, along with used auto parts and tools. Open since 2016, the business serves people looking for affordable car parts and companies needing scrap metal for recycling. Note that they don’t offer towing or part removal—they expect customers to bring their own tools.

Services & What to Expect

Cherry City Metals is a self-service salvage yard. Customers can enter during business hours to find and remove parts from junked cars. The yard carries parts from both domestic and foreign vehicles, though stock changes often. Common items include engines, transmissions, body panels, and interior components. They also sell scrap metal by the pound, such as copper, aluminum, and steel.

How Self-Service Salvage Works

  • Bring your own tools: The yard doesn’t provide wrenches, sockets, or cutting tools—you must bring what you need.
  • Find parts yourself: Vehicles are grouped by make and model, but you’ll need to search for the exact part. Staff can point you in the right direction but can’t guarantee what’s available.
  • Remove parts on your own: You’re responsible for taking apart and extracting parts. The yard doesn’t offer help with removal.
  • Pay before leaving: Prices are set per part or by weight for scrap metal. Payment is made at the office when you’re done.

Other Services

While the main focus is self-service salvage, Cherry City Metals also takes vehicles for scrap metal recycling. This includes:

  • Non-running cars and trucks
  • Motorcycles and ATVs
  • Scrap metal (copper, aluminum, steel, etc.)
For vehicle recycling, call ahead to check current policies, as they can change. If you need to get rid of an old car, check other local junkyards that buy vehicles.

What to Bring

  • Valid ID or driver’s license
  • Cash or debit card (credit cards may not be accepted)
  • Tools for part removal (wrenches, sockets, pry bars, etc.)
  • Gloves and safety gear (recommended)
  • A vehicle to haul parts (if needed)

I checked their website the night before to compare prices for my scrap metal, and while they were cheaper, the gas to get there ate up any savings. Ended up taking my two loads to CCM, but they only gave me 75% of the listed price. Should’ve just gone somewhere else—total waste of time and money. ---

We were driving down I-5 when one of their scrap trucks started throwing metal chunks onto the highway. A piece the size of my forearm nearly hit our car, and it barely missed the truck in front of us. The wind carried it fast—we were two car lengths back in the next lane, but it still came flying toward us. Had our kids in the back, and all of us were on edge the whole time, waiting for something else to come flying out. Their trucks need proper covers—this is how someone gets hurt. ---

This place is solid. The whole process was fast and easy, no hassle at all. The staff actually pays attention and helps out if you need it. No complaints here—would go back. ---

Heard they had a bunch of M1 helmets, so I stopped by. Yeah, they had a stack, but $75 each? Half of them were rusted out, most of the chinstraps were broken, and only two even had liners. Overpriced junk. ---

The whole experience was confusing. I talked to eight different people while they weighed my aluminum, and no one seemed to know what they were doing. The scale number didn’t add up, someone signed my ticket without explaining anything, and when I got to the cashier, the receipt had the wrong name and address. Had to make them fix it before I left. If they just had clearer steps—like telling me upfront what the price per pound is and where to go to get paid—it wouldn’t have been such a mess.
