Overview

Cimco Recycling Sterling Inc. at 2622 New Era Rd, Murphysboro, IL

Cimco Recycling Sterling Inc. is a self-service auto salvage yard and scrap metal dealer at 2622 New Era Rd in Murphysboro. They sell used auto parts from salvaged vehicles and recycle scrap metal. Customers can browse the yard themselves to find parts for repairs or projects. The yard runs on a first-come, first-served basis for part removal, and staff help locate specific components or answer questions about inventory.

Services & What to Expect

Cimco Recycling offers a simple self-service setup for finding used auto parts. The yard has vehicles in different states of disassembly, so customers can search for parts on their own. You’ll find common items like engines, transmissions, body panels, interior parts, and mechanical components. Tools are usually available on-site, but bringing your own is a good idea.

The business also recycles scrap metal, taking in non-automotive metal scrap along with vehicle parts. Customers can drop off scrap during business hours. If you have an old car to get rid of, Cimco Recycling may pay cash for junk cars—check their cash for junk cars page for details.

How Self-Service Works

  • Arrive during business hours and park in the customer area.
  • Walk through the yard to find the part you need. Vehicles are sometimes grouped by make, model, or year, but this can change.
  • Use the tools on-site (or your own) to remove the part. Staff can help if you need it.
  • Pay for the part at the office before leaving. Prices are set per part or by weight for scrap metal.
  • Take the part with you—no storage is provided.

What to Bring

  • Cash or a debit/credit card (payment methods may vary).
  • Tools for removing parts, like wrenches, sockets, or pry bars.
  • A vehicle to haul the part away (parts can be heavy or bulky).
  • Gloves and safety gear (some parts may be sharp or dirty).
  • Knowledge of the part you need, including the make, model, year, and specific component.

Accepted Payments

Payment methods aren’t listed online, but most salvage yards in the area take cash and major credit or debit cards. Call ahead at (618) 457-6319 to confirm before visiting.

I showed up at 11:25 on a Saturday—plenty of time before noon, right? Wrong. The second I pulled in, they slammed the doors shut at 11:50 like I wasn’t even there. I just wanted to ask a quick question, but they acted like I was invisible. Never in my life have I been treated so poorly. I don’t even *want* to leave a star, but here we are. ---

My microwave finally kicked the bucket, and I didn’t want to deal with hauling it to the dump. These guys made it easy—pulled it right out of my car and took it off my hands. Problem solved. ---

I called the Marion location first to get a price on my copper and aluminum, but when I got there, they gave me a completely different number—and didn’t care enough to fix it. Frustrated, I drove over to Carbondale just to check this place out while I was in the area. Josh, who works in the weighing area, actually listened. He called Marion to confirm what they’d told me, found out they’d messed up (again, apparently), and even gave me a better deal than I’d been promised. The yard was cleaner than most scrap places, and I left with an empty truck bed and a little less stress. Josh went above and beyond—exactly what you want when dealing with scrap yards. ---

I’ve dealt with bad customer service before, but Cimco takes the cake. No signs, no help—just employees screaming at me because I didn’t know the “procedure.” I’d rather toss my old metal in the trash than step foot in that place again. Avoid at all costs unless they fire every single person working there. I wouldn’t trust them to feed a dog, let alone help a customer.
