Overview

Cumberland Salvage Inc at 40 Blackstrap Rd, Cumberland, ME 04021

Cumberland Salvage Inc is a self-service auto salvage yard in Cumberland, Maine. Customers can buy used car parts for themselves, mechanics, or DIY repairs. The yard follows a "u-pull-it" model, where you find and remove parts on your own. It stocks parts for domestic and foreign vehicles, mostly from models up to 20 years old. The business has been family-owned since 1965 and is one of the larger salvage yards in the Northeast. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Services & What to Expect

Cumberland Salvage Inc is a self-service salvage yard. You search for and remove parts yourself—no staff assistance is provided. Bring your own tools and a way to haul parts, like a truck or trailer. Larger items, such as engines or transmissions, may need a tow truck.

What Parts Are Available?

The yard carries parts for most domestic and foreign cars, trucks, and SUVs from the last 20 years. You’ll typically find:

  • Engines and transmissions
  • Body panels and bumpers
  • Interior parts (seats, dashboards, door panels)
  • Suspension and drivetrain components
  • Electrical parts (wiring harnesses, sensors, lights)
  • Brake system parts (calipers, rotors, brake pads)
The yard doesn’t specialize in rare or classic car parts, but some older models may be available depending on recent acquisitions.

How Self-Service Works

You enter the yard, locate the part you need, and remove it yourself. A list of vehicles on-site is available, but there’s no online inventory. Prices are marked on each vehicle or part. Pay at the office before leaving. No appointment is needed, but arriving early helps—selection is best first thing in the morning.

What to Bring

Plan ahead and bring:

  • Tools for part removal (wrenches, sockets, pry bars, etc.)
  • A vehicle or trailer to transport parts
  • Cash or a debit/credit card (major cards accepted)
  • Knowledge of the part or vehicle you’re looking for
The yard doesn’t lend or sell tools.

Found exactly what I was looking for at a fair price, which is always a win. And if they don’t have the part? They’ll pick up the phone and track it down for you. Saves a lot of running around, and I appreciate that kind of effort. ---

I went to Copp Motors and it was a total mess. They gave me the wrong part, then tried to act like I was the one making a mistake when I pointed it out. Only after some employee dragged the owner over did I get any kind of apology. The whole place feels like they care more about squeezing every dollar out of you than actually helping customers. Don’t waste your time here—it’s not worth the hassle. ---

Honestly, this salvage yard is one of the better ones I’ve dealt with. The people working there actually treat you like a person instead of just another customer. No attitude, no rushing you out the door—just straightforward, decent service. If they’ve got the part you need, you won’t regret stopping by. ---

This place is a nightmare. The staff acted like I was bothering them just by walking in, and when I tried to pay, they charged me double what that part was worth. No explanation, no apology—just a bad attitude and a sloppy operation. The whole experience was frustrating, from the overpriced junk to the spiderwebs all over everything. A good salvage yard should at least pretend to care about customers. This one doesn’t even do that. ---

The guy running this place is great—friendly, knows his stuff, and the prices are solid. Plus, there’s a dog hanging around that’s basically the unofficial greeter. If you’re hunting for used parts and want to deal with someone who won’t nickel-and-dime you, give them a call. Worth the trip.
