G&R Auto Wreckers Foreign - Salem, Oregon

G&R Auto Wreckers Foreign is a self-service auto salvage yard in Salem, Oregon. Located at 4825 Ridge Drive Northeast, it lets customers remove their own parts from wrecked cars. The yard carries foreign and domestic vehicle parts, with a focus on foreign makes. You’ll find engines, transmissions, body panels, and other components from a range of vehicles. The yard operates on a cash-and-carry basis—you pick the parts you need, remove them yourself, and pay by the pound. No appointment is needed. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Services & What to Expect

G&R Auto Wreckers Foreign is a self-service salvage yard. Customers remove parts themselves from a mix of foreign and domestic vehicles, with foreign brands as the main focus. Common parts include engines, transmissions, doors, fenders, bumpers, and interior components. The yard doesn’t offer towing or disassembly—you handle the work on-site.

How Self-Service Works

During business hours, enter through the main gate. Staff will give you a cart or wheelbarrow and explain the pricing. Parts cost $0.50 to $2.00 per pound, depending on the vehicle. Cut or remove the part you need, then bring it to the scale for payment. Tools are available for rent or purchase if you don’t have your own.

What to Bring

  • A vehicle or trailer to haul parts (the yard doesn’t help with loading)
  • Basic tools like bolt cutters, wrenches, or pry bars (or rent them on-site)
  • Cash or a debit/credit card (major payment methods accepted)
  • Work gloves and safety glasses (recommended for handling sharp metal)
  • A list of the parts you need (inventory isn’t guaranteed)

Vehicle Inventory

The yard stocks foreign and domestic vehicles, with more foreign brands like Toyota, Honda, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen. Domestic vehicles (Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge) are also available but may be less common. Inventory changes often, so calling ahead doesn’t guarantee a part will be there.

Selling a Junk Car

G&R Auto Wreckers Foreign mainly focuses on salvage, not buying junk cars. If you need to get rid of an old vehicle, check with a local junk car buyer for a quick sale.

I’d give this place negative stars if I could. Called ahead to check on a part, and the guy on the phone swore it was there—just needed to be pulled—and would be ready the next day if I paid upfront. So I drove 40 minutes, wasted gas, and showed up only to be told they don’t actually have it. Worse, they acted like it was no big deal, like I was the one being unreasonable. No apology, no effort to fix it—just a shrug. After 60 years of dealing with salvage yards, this is by far the worst. Wouldn’t trust them with a dime, even if it meant driving to another state. ---

Jonathan’s the real deal—knew exactly what I needed, no hassle. Place has a solid selection, and the service matches. If you’re looking for parts, start here. ---

Drove four hours from Seattle—*again*—for parts I’d already paid for. First time, the Toyota Prius fender I ordered vanished into thin air. This time, the Kia Optima bumper didn’t match the website picture at all—covered in scratches, totally different. No heads-up, no refund, just a bunch of excuses. If their online photos don’t match reality, what’s the point? Don’t waste your time or money here. ---

Can’t in good conscience recommend this place. Put a deposit on a part listed online, and when I called to confirm before driving two hours each way, they said it was ready. Got there, and—surprise—it wasn’t. They fumbled around trying to find a replacement, but I needed the exact part, exact year. Left empty-handed, and honestly, I don’t get why this keeps happening post-COVID. If it’s not in stock, don’t list it as available. Simple as that. ---

Josh made the whole process smooth, even when things got a little messy. He’s sharp, easy to talk to, and followed up when I dropped the ball. The taillight I got was pristine—no cracks, no issues, lit up perfectly. And the packaging? Overkill in the best way—could’ve survived a warzone. Shipping was free, the replacement came early, and the return/exchange was effortless. Saved a ton compared to retail, and the labor alone would’ve cost me $50 an hour plus the $300 price tag. Will absolutely be back—and sending everyone I know their way.
