Services & What to Expect

Hitchcock Scrap Yard is a self-service operation. Customers browse the yard, locate the parts they need, and remove them themselves. Tools are available for rent or purchase on-site if needed. The inventory includes everything from small components like nuts, bolts, and trim pieces to major assemblies like engines, transmissions, and suspension parts. The yard also sells scrap metal by the pound, including copper, aluminum, and steel.

  • Parts come from passenger cars, trucks, SUVs, and other vehicles. Common categories include drivetrain, electrical, interior, and exterior components.
  • Scrap metal is sold by weight, with no extra fees.
  • The yard doesn’t install parts. Customers must have the skills or tools to handle installation.
  • Hitchcock Scrap Yard recycles materials to keep hazardous waste out of landfills, following auto recycling standards.

Before visiting, bring tools (or rent them there), a way to transport parts, and a clear idea of what you need. The yard doesn’t offer online part searches, so you’ll need to visit in person to check inventory. Prices are straightforward—no hidden costs.

  3. Pay for the part at the office. Scrap metal is weighed, and other parts have set prices. Payment is usually cash or card.

Honestly, I’d give this place five stars if not for the guy working the indoor scale. I said hi when I walked in, and he didn’t even look up. Then I put my scrap on the scale, and he just goes, *"That it?"* Like I was wasting his time. I said yeah, waited, got my ticket, and when I thanked him, he just stared at me—no response. Kid had piercings in both ears, looked like he’d rather be anywhere else. Not sure why he’s stuck inside dealing with customers when he clearly doesn’t want to be. ---

Every single time I deal with your drivers, it’s a nightmare. One cut me off without signaling, another flipped me off just for passing them. None of you have even a shred of professionalism—no discipline, no respect. Hope you go under. You all suck. ---

The women in the office are always friendly, no issues there. There’s one younger guy out in the yard who’s actually pretty cool. But the guys running the copper and aluminum scale? Forget it. One of them chewed me out for not knowing their "rules" like I was supposed to read his mind. Dude was downright nasty about it. ---

Pulled in late at night, and at least they had space to park. Went inside to ask where to drop my load, and the guy who answered the door was a total jerk—rude, hostile, and it wasn’t even dawn yet. Who wakes up that pissed off? But the crew running the equipment? Completely different story. They were polite, answered my questions, unloaded me fast, and got out of my way. At least *someone* there knows how to do their job. ---

Just stopped by, and they straight-up lowballed me on copper. What they paid was nowhere near what it should’ve been. Next time, I’m driving to Iowa. Not worth the hassle.
