Overview

Holladay's Auto Parts at 242 Salem Hancocks Bridge Rd, Salem, NJ 08079

Holladay's Auto Parts is a self-service auto salvage yard at 242 Salem Hancocks Bridge Rd in Salem, New Jersey. Open since 1975, the business sells used auto parts, recycles scrap metal, and dismantles vehicles. Customers browse the yard themselves to find parts for repairs, restorations, or custom builds.

The yard carries common and hard-to-find components, including engines, body panels, and interior trim. They also take old vehicles for recycling, breaking them down for reusable materials like aluminum wheels and battery casings.

Services & What to Expect

Holladay's is a self-service salvage yard, meaning you search the lot for parts yourself. The yard has totaled vehicles, end-of-life cars, and donated vehicles stripped for reusable components. Parts available include:

  • Engines and transmissions
  • Body panels (doors, hoods, fenders)
  • Interior parts (seats, dashboards, trim)
  • Suspension and drivetrain components
  • Electrical parts (wiring harnesses, alternators, starters)
  • Scrap metal (aluminum wheels, battery casings, steel beams)

The yard doesn’t remove parts for you—you locate, extract, and prepare them yourself. Basic tools (wrenches, pry bars, cutters) are usually available for rent or purchase on-site. Staff can help identify parts or check condition but don’t assist with removal.

Holladay's also recycles old, non-running, or totaled cars. They dismantle vehicles for reusable parts and scrap metal. If you need to get rid of an old car, they may pay based on scrap value and usable parts. Check their cash-for-cars page for details.

What to bring:

  • A vehicle to haul parts (or arrange pickup in advance)
  • Tools (if you don’t plan to rent on-site)
  • Cash or a payment method they accept (check their site for details)
  • Part numbers or vehicle details (VIN, make, model, year)
  • Gloves and protective clothing (the yard can be dusty and sharp)

How does self-service auto salvage work at Holladay's?

At Holladay's, you find and remove parts yourself. The process is:

Six years back, I picked up a ’79 C10 from Brian, and it’s still kicking. That old Chevy’s seen more of this state than I have—hauling stuff up and down highways, through rain and dust. Brian was decent to work with, honestly. I took my sweet time getting him the rest of the cash after the down payment, but he didn’t give me grief over it. Felt like he was just a guy trying to keep his dad’s old business running, not some corporate jerk. Still got the truck, and if I’m ever back in that creepy corner of the state, I’ll swing by just to see what junk he’s got piled up. Dude’s a Chevy guy through and through. No doubt about it. ---

Called this place three times in one afternoon. Nothing. So I drove over, sat in the lobby, and watched the phone ring while they all pretended not to notice. Not a single person bothered to pick up. ---

Called in for some parts today, and the folks there were actually nice—no attitude, no hassle. Drove an hour to grab them, and they had everything ready when I showed up. The guy who helped me was solid, no nonsense. Whole thing went smooth, and I’d go back if I needed to. Thanks for making it easy. ---

Yeah, I’m with the others—phone people here are straight-up rude. Told me I had to pay upfront for a part, then when they finally called back to say it was rusted, they acted like they never even charged me. What’s the point of making me pay first if they’re just gonna play games? Felt like I was talking to some backwoods guy who woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Wouldn’t send anyone here, not even my worst enemy. ---

Every time I call, it’s like they’re in a hurry to get off the phone. Maybe they’re busy, but it’s happened enough times that it’s annoying. Prices are fair, and the place looks organized, but after dealing with their short temper and bad attitude, I took my business elsewhere. Shame, too—could’ve been a good local spot if they fixed their service. Maybe this’ll be the kick in the pants they need.
