Overview

Joppa Salvage at 420 Pulaski Hwy, Joppatowne, MD

Joppa Salvage is a self-service auto salvage yard in Joppatowne, Maryland. Located at 420 Pulaski Hwy, it’s run by Smith Industries Group and sells used auto parts and scrap metal. The yard focuses on breaking down old vehicles, recovering parts, and recycling metals like aluminum, copper, and steel. Unlike some junkyards, Joppa Salvage lets customers walk the lot, find their own parts, and remove them. It’s a straightforward place for DIY mechanics, repair shops, and anyone needing affordable car parts. The business has been open since 2000, serving the local area with no-nonsense auto salvage.

Services & What to Expect

Joppa Salvage is a self-service yard, meaning you browse and remove parts on your own. The yard handles:

  • Used auto parts: Engines, transmissions, body panels, electrical components, and interior parts from different vehicle makes and models.
  • Scrap metal recycling: Aluminum, copper, steel, and other metals taken from dismantled cars. The yard buys scrap metal, but check with them first to confirm what they accept.
  • Vehicle dismantling: The yard breaks down old cars to recover usable parts and materials.
  • Self-service part removal: You can enter during business hours, find what you need, and take it yourself. Tools may be available to rent or buy on-site.

The yard doesn’t offer part delivery, so you’ll need to transport anything you buy. Prices depend on the part’s condition, demand, and metal weight. If you’re looking to get rid of an old car , Joppa Salvage might take it for scrap—call ahead to check.

What to bring: Gloves, safety glasses, tools (if needed), and a way to haul parts (truck, trailer, or a vehicle with enough space). Bring cash or a payment method the yard accepts.

Let me tell you straight—this place undercuts *everything* and won’t even post their prices anywhere. Not online, not on a board, nothing. Other yards list theirs daily, but Joppa? Nah. They’ll hit you with service fees *and* facility fees on top of already lowball prices. Paid $300 once, got hit with over $7 in extra charges, and the metal itself was worth way more elsewhere. Don’t just take my word for it—go check their prices yourself. They’re hiding something. ---

First time here, and the staff seemed fine, but the fees? A total scam. Every different type of scrap metal you bring in? That’s another fee. And good luck figuring out what they’re actually paying—they don’t make it easy. I took the same load to another yard the same day and walked out with *way* more cash. Their scales might be the real issue, though. Keep an eye on ‘em. ---

The guys working there are solid, but the pricing? A joke. They lowball *everything*—even brand-new copper coil. And yeah, they’ll charge you just to print a receipt. I only go here when I’m desperate. Ask anyone who’s scrapped here more than once. You’ll hear the same thing. ---

If you’re bringing in serious copper, skip this place. They’ll call anything with a hint of green “#2” grade, even if it’s clean. Stripped wire? Zero value, no matter how pure it is. Their scale’s off by 14 pounds *every time*, and they weigh stuff in chunks so you lose that weight no matter what. My dad ran a scrap yard for decades—I know what fair pay looks like. I brought in clean, separated copper, did everything right, and still got ripped off by nearly $500. They’re used to people who don’t care, but if you’ve got real volume, go elsewhere. ---

First visit? It’s a little chaotic. The entrance is way over on the left past the green fence. Once you turn in, the scale’s on your right—just make sure it’s empty before you drive on. Pull up near the speakers (left and right), wait for the lady to clear you, then dump your steel and general scrap in the pile on the left. If you’ve got copper, brass, or aluminum, you’ll need to back up to the scale *again* before heading to the garage door. They’ll have you pull over there to unload those into blue bins if it’s a big haul, then they’ll log your license and send you to the window to get paid—where you’ll show your ID *again*. Oh, and watch out for those big rigs backing up. We learned that the hard way. It’s not the worst yard in Maryland, but it’s not the best either.
