Overview

Kendallville Iron & Metal, Inc. - 243 E Lisbon Rd, Kendallville, IN

Kendallville Iron & Metal, Inc. is a self-service auto salvage yard and scrap metal dealer at 243 E Lisbon Rd in Kendallville. The business sells used auto parts, dismantles vehicles, and buys scrap metal. Customers can search the yard for parts from older cars, including engines, transmissions, and body components. The yard is self-service—you find and remove parts yourself.

The business also buys and processes scrap metal, including steel, aluminum, and copper. Pricing for scrap depends on current market rates. If you have an old car you no longer need, check with local junk car buyers for cash offers instead of letting it sit unused.

What to Expect

Kendallville Iron & Metal, Inc. offers a simple self-service experience for used auto parts. The yard has vehicles in different stages of disassembly, with parts grouped by type when possible. You can look for engines, transmissions, suspension parts, or interior components. Basic tools are usually available on-site, but bring your own if you need something specific.

The yard also takes scrap metal, including steel, iron, aluminum, and copper. Prices change with market rates, and some metals may require proof of ownership. The business does not install parts or repair vehicles—you remove parts yourself and check their condition before buying.

No, there’s no fee to enter the yard. You only pay for the parts you take. Some salvage yards charge a daily fee, but this one doesn’t.

Can I return a part if it doesn’t work?

The yard has a no-return policy once parts leave the premises. Always inspect parts before buying. If a part is clearly damaged or misrepresented, you can talk to staff, but returns aren’t guaranteed.

Been coming here off and on for years, and honestly? Never had a single issue. Whether it’s old furniture or scrap steel and aluminum, they always let me drop it off no problem. And the best part? They actually pay me for the stuff I’m trying to get rid of. Simple as that. ---

Tried calling them a few times, but the phone just rings and rings. Either they’re too busy to answer or they don’t care—either way, it’s not a good sign. If they can’t even pick up the phone, I’m not wasting my time. ---

Had a real bad experience with this place. They sent a container to my job site for a metal roof we tore off, and when I got paid, the weight on their ticket was way off—like 2,500 pounds lighter than it should’ve been. My vendor’s shipping tickets always match the actual weight, so I knew something was wrong. I called to ask about it, and some guy named Steve got all defensive right away. He acted like I was accusing them of cheating, saying their scales are perfect and I must be wrong. I wasn’t even demanding extra money—I just wanted to understand the difference. But the more I talked, the more he snapped at me, saying I didn’t know what I was talking about and telling me not to call back. At best, their customer service is terrible. At worst? They might’ve taken scrap out of my container before weighing it. Either way, I’m never dealing with them again. ---

Only used them because they’re open on weekends, but man, what a mess. The woman running the scale was more into her phone call about camping than actually helping—didn’t even tell me where to go or if she was done weighing. And the scrap yard? Covered in screws and nails, like, *everywhere*. I mean, yeah, it’s a scrap yard, but it was insane. We got rid of our junk, but now I’m worried about my tires picking up who knows what. Use them if you have to, but be ready to pay for it later. ---

Only stopped here because Auburn Omnisource was closed when I showed up. Turns out, they paid $60 less per ton for shred steel than the Fort Wayne yards—but the people there were actually nice, so that helped. Still, not my first choice, but at least they treated me decent.
