Overview

LKQ - Utah - Salt Lake City, UT

LKQ - Utah is a self-service auto salvage yard in Salt Lake City where customers can buy used car parts. The yard follows a "you-pull-it" model—you find the part you need, remove it yourself, and take it home. It’s a go-to spot for DIY mechanics, insurance claim customers, and anyone looking for affordable auto parts. This location is part of the LKQ Corporation network, which specializes in recycling and reselling vehicle parts. The yard is open weekdays only, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Services & What to Expect

LKQ - Utah offers a simple self-service experience. You can walk the yard, pick out the part you need from the inventory of salvaged cars, and remove it yourself. Tools are available on-site, though some customers bring their own. The yard doesn’t provide professional disassembly or installation—parts are sold as-is, with no warranties.

What You’ll Find

The inventory includes parts from a variety of vehicles, such as:

  • Engines and transmissions
  • Body panels (doors, hoods, fenders)
  • Interior parts (seats, dashboards, trim)
  • Suspension and drivetrain components
  • Electrical parts (batteries, alternators, starters)
  • Braking systems (calipers, rotors, brake pads)
The selection changes daily as new vehicles arrive. Common makes and models usually have more parts in stock, but rare or high-demand items may require checking with staff.

How Self-Service Works

The process is straightforward:

  1. Visit during business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM).
  2. Enter the yard—no admission fee is charged at this location.
  3. Find the part you need by browsing the inventory. Vehicles are often grouped by make, model, or year, but labeling isn’t always consistent.
  4. Remove the part using the tools provided. Staff can answer basic questions but won’t take parts off vehicles for you.
  5. Pay at the checkout counter. Prices are set per part, and cash or card is accepted.
  6. Take your part home. A trailer or truck helps if you’re hauling larger items like engines or doors.

If you’re unsure whether a part works, staff may offer some guidance, but testing is up to you.

What to Bring

Come prepared with:

  • A list of part numbers or descriptions for what you need.
  • Basic tools (if you have them)—the yard provides common ones like wrenches and sockets.
  • A vehicle or trailer for hauling larger parts.
  • Cash or a debit/credit card for payment.
  • Gloves and safety gear—the yard can be dusty and has sharp metal edges.
Dress for the weather, as the yard is outdoors with little shade.

I wasted half a day on this place. First, I had to drive 90 minutes just to order a part in person because nobody answers the phone. Then they sent me the wrong one. When I called to complain, they put me on hold for 15 minutes straight—twice. The second time, I finally got someone, only to be put on hold *again*. Don’t bother with this dump. Save yourself the headache. ---

After years of dealing with LKQ and Keystone, I can say this: their parts are bad, but their accounting is worse. We avoid them like the plague if we can. Late bills, then suddenly your account gets shut off the next day? That’s their game. If you like financial chaos, sure, keep using them. ---

Their "business hours" mean nothing. I’ve called at all different times—morning, afternoon, even right before closing—and nobody picks up. Not once. They gave me a "direct number" like it was some big help, but it’s the same one I’ve been calling for weeks. Useless. ---

I’ve left six voicemails over three weeks. Six. Their phones ring once, then dump you into voicemail 90% of the time. If you somehow get through and mention a warranty, they transfer you to some rep’s line—which also goes to voicemail. And guess what? No call back. I’m done with SLC. They don’t care. ---

Green Bean Batteries sells "refurbished" hybrid batteries. Don’t. They’re a scam. Warranty issues? Forget it. They ignore calls, emails—everything. You’re on your own. Stay far away.
