Mervis Recycling is a self-service auto salvage yard and scrap metal recycling center in Urbana, Illinois. Located at 3008 N Cunningham Ave, the business has been in operation for over 25 years, offering used auto parts and a u-pull-it yard where customers remove parts themselves. They also handle scrap metal recycling. While they don’t have a Google rating, they maintain a Facebook page for customer questions.

Services & What to Expect

Mervis Recycling runs a self-service u-pull-it yard where customers find and remove their own parts. The yard holds a variety of vehicles, including older models and scrap metal. They don’t openly advertise cash-for-cars, but they do take scrap metal and vehicles for recycling. If you need to get rid of an old car, check their website or call to confirm their current vehicle purchase policy.

What to Bring

  • Tools for removing parts (if using the self-service yard)
  • Vehicle details if you’re looking for parts for a specific make or model
  • A payment method (cash, credit, or debit—check what they accept before you go)
  • A truck or trailer if you’re taking large parts or scrap metal

How Self-Service Works

Customers enter the yard and search for parts on their own. Vehicles are grouped by type, but parts aren’t always labeled. Staff can help locate specific items if asked. Once you find a part, you remove it yourself. Pricing is usually per part or by weight for scrap metal. The yard doesn’t offer installation services, so confirm if you need help with that.

Scrap Metal & Recycling

Mervis Recycling also processes scrap metal. Customers can drop off metal for recycling, and pricing is based on weight. They don’t list public rates, so call ahead for current prices.

Location & Hours

Mervis Recycling is at 3008 N Cunningham Ave, Urbana, IL 61802. The yard is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:45 PM (Central Time). It’s closed on weekends and holidays. They don’t offer extended hours, so plan your visit during these times.

Parking & Accessibility

The yard has on-site parking for customers, including space for trucks and trailers. The entrance is gated, so check in when you arrive. The property is mostly flat, but some areas may be uneven. Wheelchair access isn’t confirmed, so call ahead if you need it.

The guys here are actually nice to deal with, which is rare for a junkyard. And they don’t waste your time—got my parts in and out in under 10 minutes. ---

Let me tell you, this place is a total scam. They split up my brass valves into two piles—one they paid me $1.70 per pound for, the other just $0.30. Turns out there was a tiny piece that could’ve been removed, but they didn’t mention that until after I’d already handed over my check. Lost $180 because of their sneaky pricing. Never setting foot in there again. ---

I’ve been bringing all my old appliances and scrap metal here for years, and they always take everything—even the weird stuff. Aluminum? They’ll pay for it. Plastics? They’ll take those too. The staff’s always been decent, and their website actually matches what they’ve got. No surprises, which is more than I can say for some places. ---

If you’ve got scrap to dump, this is the spot. The main building’s clean and organized, so you’re not digging through a mess. The staff’s quick and don’t make you feel like you’re wasting their time. In and out in 15 minutes, no hassle. ---

Their website says they’ll pay $300 to haul away your car, but that’s a lie. Soon as you get there, they hit you with a $150 tow fee *and* another $150 because your car’s missing some Cadillac part—something they never told you about upfront. Ended up with $50 instead of $300. Wouldn’t trust them with a broken toaster, let alone a car.
