Overview

MetalX at 2222 Coliseum Blvd W, Fort Wayne, IN 46808

MetalX is a self-service auto salvage yard and scrap metal recycling center at 2222 West Coliseum Boulevard in Fort Wayne. Since 1998, it’s served local drivers and contractors by letting customers pull their own used auto parts or sell scrap metal. The yard keeps parts from GM, Ford, Chrysler, Honda, and Toyota organized by make and model, making it easier to find what you need.

Services & What to Expect

MetalX offers two main services: self-service auto parts and scrap metal recycling. The salvage yard carries parts from major brands, including engines, transmissions, body panels, bumpers, and interior components. You’ll also find paint, coatings, and bodywork tools on-site.

Self-Service Salvage Process

MetalX runs on a self-service model—you locate, remove, and pay for parts yourself. Basic tools are available, but bring your own if you need something specific. Once you’ve got the part, take it to the payment area to check out. The yard doesn’t remove parts for you, so you’ll need to handle the work.

Scrap Metal Recycling

MetalX buys scrap metal like steel, aluminum, and copper. They accept loose or bundled materials but weigh different metals separately. Payment happens on the spot. Some customers have reported issues with scale accuracy, especially for large loads like pop cans.

Additional Notes

The yard is open to the public during business hours. Call ahead if you’re checking on part availability or scrap acceptance. MetalX doesn’t offer towing or junk car removal, but you can look into cash for junk cars in Fort Wayne for vehicle disposal.

Honestly, this junkyard is the real deal—I’m done wasting time at those other places. The lot’s actually clean, which is rare, and I didn’t have to stress about picking up nails or junk like some people complain about. The staff moves fast, no nonsense, and I got in and out in under an hour. Showed up at 8 AM, left by 8:30, and still made my 9 AM meeting in Warsaw. Pro tip: If you’re bringing a fridge, cut the compressor out first or you’ll regret it. ---

These guys know what they’re doing. No waiting around, no confusion—they got me in and out quick. Answered my questions straight up, no runaround. If you need a junkyard that actually works, this is the one. ---

Brought in nine 55-gallon bags of pop cans—some crushed, some not—and the scale ticket said I only had four pounds. Four pounds? That’s a joke. A single bag holds 300–400 cans, and even the crushed ones add up fast. Thirty-five to forty-five cans make a pound, so nine bags? There’s no way that’s only four pounds. They either don’t know how to weigh stuff or they’re ripping people off. Either way, I’m not coming back. ---

Absolute nightmare. They made me drive through the scale building three times because I had a trailer full of pop cans *and* a bucket of loose ones. First two trips, the dozen employees standing around couldn’t even handle my cans right. Then each trip took 15 minutes—15 minutes!—because the whole setup is a mess. By the time I got home, I had a flat tire. The place is poorly run, the people are rude, and the layout is a disaster. If you go there, just assume you’re getting a flat and hope your load covers the cost of a new tire. ---

For a recycling place, it wasn’t half bad—cleaner than most, at least. Had a couple guys there to help unload, which was nice. The only downside was having to weigh everything separately. Took a while because they were busy, but it wasn’t a total hassle. Still better than some of the other spots I’ve tried.
