Overview

Metro Metals Northwest Inc at 5611 NE Columbia Blvd, Portland, OR 97218

Metro Metals Northwest Inc is a family-owned auto salvage yard and scrap metal dealer at 5611 NE Columbia Blvd in Portland. Open since 1978, the business lets customers find and remove their own used auto parts. They also buy and sell scrap metal, including copper, aluminum, and steel. The yard is listed on directories like U-Pull-It and RecycleInMe , making it a go-to spot for parts and recycling in the area.

Services & What to Expect

Metro Metals Northwest Inc offers two main services: a self-service auto salvage yard and scrap metal sales. Customers can browse and remove parts from salvaged vehicles or buy and sell scrap metal like copper, aluminum, and steel.

Self-Service Auto Salvage

The salvage yard works on a self-service model. Customers walk the lot, find the vehicle they need, and take the parts themselves. Basic tools for cutting and disassembly are usually available. The yard has a mix of cars, trucks, and SUVs, with parts ranging from engines and transmissions to body panels and interior components.

Scrap Metal Sales & Recycling

Alongside auto parts, Metro Metals Northwest Inc buys and sells scrap metal. They take copper, brass, aluminum, and steel, with prices based on current market rates. Customers can also buy scrap metal for their own projects or resale.

What to Bring

  • A valid driver’s license or government ID
  • Cash or a debit/credit card (if accepted)
  • Tools for disassembly (if you don’t plan to use theirs)
  • A vehicle to haul parts or scrap metal

Pricing & Payment

Auto part prices depend on condition and demand. Scrap metal prices follow market rates and can change daily. The yard doesn’t list part prices online, so call ahead or visit for quotes. Payment is made at checkout, either at the cashier or via mobile payment.

Hours & Accessibility

The yard is open Monday to Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM and Saturdays from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM. It’s closed Sundays. Hours may change due to weather, holidays, or inventory, so check before visiting.

Selling a Junk Car

Metro Metals Northwest Inc focuses on salvage and scrap metal, not junk car purchases. If you need to sell an old car, look for cash for junk cars services in Portland. These often offer quick appraisals and free towing.

Pulled into the scrap yard the wrong way—first mistake. Some guy stopped me, said I needed to go around the other side. Fine, I’ll circle back. But then he tells me to just back up onto this metal plate instead. So I do, unload my stuff, and when I ask about payment, they hit me with, *"Oh, you didn’t weigh in first, so no cash for you."* Followed their instructions to the letter, and still got screwed. Classic. ---

Brought in a bunch of separated aluminum and copper, thinking I’d at least get a fair shake. Told the guy up front I wanted to watch them weigh it all first—no surprises. He sends some other dude over to "help" unload, says he’ll go over it with me. So I leave for a sec, come back, and *poof*—my whole haul’s gone. Buckets tossed in the mud like trash. Paid 0.12 cents *per pound* for metal I knew was worth way more. The way they looked me dead in the eye while ripping me off? Unbelievable. Should’ve just lit it all on fire and saved the gas money. ---

Place pays decent for scrap, but don’t expect them to lift a finger if you damage something. Bent my trailer hitch backing into their lot, and when I asked about help or compensation? Crickets. Just stood there like I’d asked for a kidney. Money’s good, but their customer service is nonexistent. ---

Showed up at Easy A/C Recycling last month with an old unit, and it was the easiest $15 I’ve ever spent. No cards, just cash—handed it over at the gate, got a receipt, and they pointed me to a row of carts. Dumped the AC on one, wheeled it inside, and some guy took it from there. Receipt in hand, I walked out feeling like I’d just dropped off a pizza instead of a hunk of metal. No fuss, no waiting around. ---

If you’re hauling a semi, the appointment system here works—no stress if you’re early or late. Drive up, hit the scale at the gate, and they move quick. Then comes the wait: one dock, a line of trucks, and about 30 minutes to unload. After that, you’ve gotta hop out, drive back around, and scale empty again. Not the fastest, but it gets the job done.
