Pettit's Auto Parts & Recycling at 200 Goodrich Ave, Shelbyville, IN 46176

Pettit's Auto Parts & Recycling is a family-owned auto salvage yard and self-service parts dealer in Shelbyville. Open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, the 25-acre yard takes apart older vehicles and sells used parts to the public. Since 1980, they’ve offered engines, transmissions, brakes, tires, and interior components at lower prices. Customers can search for parts on their own or ask for help. The yard also handles scrap metal recycling, so it’s a good place for auto salvage needs.

Services & What to Expect

Pettit's is a self-service auto salvage yard, meaning you can look for parts yourself. They stock parts from many vehicle makes and models, with a focus on older or discontinued cars that are hard to find elsewhere.

  • Self-service parts browsing: Walk the yard to find and buy used auto parts. Staff are available if you have questions.
  • Professional installation: Need help putting in a part? The team can do it for an extra fee.
  • Scrap metal recycling: The yard takes in and processes scrap metal from vehicles and other sources.
  • Junk vehicle dismantling: They break down old cars and trucks to recover usable parts for resale.

The yard is organized by vehicle type, with signs to help you find what you need. Tools like jacks, wrenches, and pry bars are usually available for rent or use. Prices are set per part, so check items carefully before buying.

Pettit's doesn’t advertise cash-for-cars services, but if you need to get rid of an old vehicle, check our cash for junk cars page for local options.

Rusty’s always been a solid guy. Back in the ‘90s, when I was just a kid riding my bike around, he’d sell me parts for it. Never gave me a hard time, just helped me out. ---

Bought a rear differential from these guys for my truck, and after getting it installed, it started making a weird noise a week later. They won’t do anything about it—no warranty, no refund. The guy I talked to just said his buddy’s good at fixing them and he’d check if they had another one to swap out, but I never heard back. As someone who runs my own business, I can’t recommend this place. Save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else. ---

The staff was friendly enough, but when I looked over my receipt later, I noticed they’d marked some of my recycling as tin instead of steel. Everything I brought in—except the aluminum—was magnetic, so that was definitely a mistake. Double-check your receipts before you leave. ---

Rusty and Patty run a straight-up honest operation. One time, I accidentally tossed some higher-priced scrap into the wrong bin, and they caught it. Instead of keeping the extra money, they moved it to the right bin so I got paid fairly. I wouldn’t have even noticed if they hadn’t said anything. Even though we moved closer to another place, I still drive to Pettit’s because of how fair and quick they are. In and out in 15 minutes, every time. ---

Got in and out in under 10 minutes. The people on the phone were super helpful, and the whole process was smooth. If I’ve got big appliances to recycle again, I’ll be back.
