Services & What to Expect

Reliable Recycling Center runs as a self-service auto salvage yard. Customers find and remove their own parts from vehicles in the lot. The yard also recycles scrap metal like aluminum cans, copper, and steel. You’ll need to bring your own tools and remove parts on-site.

Self-Service Auto Salvage

Here’s how the u-pull-it process works at Reliable Recycling Center:

  • Look through the yard for vehicles with the parts you need.
  • Buy the vehicle to take the parts out (prices depend on the car’s condition).
  • Use your own tools to remove the parts on-site.
  • Take the parts with you when you leave.

The yard doesn’t sell parts separately—you have to buy the whole vehicle to get what you need. This is how most u-pull-it yards work, focusing on recycling cars rather than selling parts.

Scrap Metal Recycling

Besides auto salvage, the yard recycles non-ferrous and ferrous metals, including:

  • Aluminum (cans, siding, wheels)
  • Copper (wiring, piping, radiators)
  • Steel (appliances, scrap metal)
  • Brass and other non-ferrous metals

Prices for scrap metal change often based on market rates. Call ahead or check the website for current rates.

Vehicle Disposal & Hazardous Waste Handling

The yard processes end-of-life vehicles, including proper disposal of fluids and hazardous materials. This includes:

  • Draining and recycling motor oil, transmission fluid, and antifreeze
  • Removing and disposing of batteries (lead-acid and others)
  • Handling air conditioning refrigerants and other regulated substances

If you need to get rid of an old car , check with the yard first—they may take it, but policies and prices can vary.

Customer Experiences & Reviews

Reliable Recycling Center has a 4.4-star rating on Google from 99 reviews. Customers have both good and bad things to say about the yard.

Positive Experiences

Many customers like the yard’s straightforward approach and helpful staff. Jose Quinteros gave it 5 stars, saying:

"Reliable Scrap Yard is the only local place I trust. The service is solid, and the staff actually care about making sure you’re taken care of. No surprises, no hassle—just a decent experience every time."

Others mention the efficiency of the staff, especially at the scales where metal is weighed. Christopher Hollerman (5 stars) said:

"The guys at the scales move fast and don’t waste your time. The office staff was actually friendly, which is a nice surprise."

The yard’s organization is another plus—parts are easy to find without digging through messy piles.

Criticisms & Areas for Improvement

Some customers complain about pricing, especially for scrap metal. Walter Marquez (1 star) wrote:

"I keep coming back here, thinking maybe this time it’ll be different, but no. Today I brought in a bunch of aluminum, and they still lowballed me—same as last time, or even less."

Another common issue is the lack of part sales. Unlike traditional salvage yards, Reliable Recycling Center doesn’t sell individual parts—you have to buy the whole vehicle. Baron Llywelyn (4 stars) pointed this out:

"They don’t sell anything. Not a single part, not even basic stuff. That’s a huge letdown if you’re looking to pick up anything."

A few reviews also mention long lines, especially on weekdays, which can slow things down for customers dropping off scrap.

Honestly, the line can get long here, but the guys working the scales move fast and don’t waste your time. The office staff was actually pretty friendly, which is a nice surprise. Everything’s well-organized—no digging through piles to find what you need. I’ll be back, even though it’s a 30-minute drive from me. Next time, I’m bringing a full truckload to make the trip worth it. ---

They still buy cans, which is good, especially after everything with COVID. The staff is polite and gets things done without dragging their feet. But here’s the kicker—they don’t sell anything. Not a single part, not even basic stuff. That’s a huge letdown if you’re looking to pick up anything. ---

I keep ending up at this place, thinking maybe this time it’ll be different, but no. I thought they’d pay better than the other scrap yard down the street, but it’s actually worse. Today I brought in a whole bunch of aluminum, and they still lowballed me—same as last time, or even less. At this point, both these places are a joke if you’re trying to get rid of metal. Don’t bother. ---

This place will nickel-and-dime you every chance they get, just to pad their own profits. I only bring small loads here because if you take your metal to Martinsburg Scrap, you’ll get $9 instead of the $6 they’ll offer. The owners and staff? Pure greed, always looking for an excuse to dock your pay. Do yourself a favor and skip this one—go to Frederick’s or Martinsburg instead. *(Edit after their response...)* They tried to claim I had three freon units in my load, but I didn’t even have three items that *could* have freon. They said they weighed them, but I was in the office 90 seconds after unloading—there’s no way they had time to check anything. That’s just a lie. And yeah, I know those units were empty. I’m getting the security footage to prove it. But the real icing on the cake? The front desk woman is the rudest, most smug person I’ve ever dealt with. She’s miserable, and from what I’ve read, I’m not the only one who thinks so.
