Overview

SA Recycling at 3147 E Ajo Way, Tucson, AZ 85713

SA Recycling is a Tucson scrap metal recycling center and auto salvage yard at 3147 E Ajo Way. They buy and process scrap metal—aluminum, copper, steel, and more—and salvage parts from junked cars, trucks, boats, and RVs. Customers can pull their own parts (u-pull-it) or buy pre-removed components from the on-site store. The yard also takes in unwanted vehicles, with free pickup for large scrap metal loads.

SA Recycling is part of the Sims Metal Management network, a large recycling company with locations across the U.S. and internationally. The Tucson site follows the same policies as other Sims yards, including standard scrap metal pricing and a set process for vehicle salvage. While recycling and auto parts are the main focus, some customers also use it to drop off old vehicles.

Services & What to Expect

SA Recycling handles two main services: scrap metal recycling and self-service auto salvage. For scrap, they take common materials like aluminum cans, copper wiring (including insulated wire), steel beams, and stainless steel. Small loads can be dropped off, while larger ones may need a scheduled free pickup. Pricing is usually by weight and metal type, though some customers note that certain metals—like those labeled as "tin"—sometimes get lower payouts.

The salvage yard is organized by vehicle make and model, making it easier to find parts. Tools are available for self-service removal, and the yard carries a range of components, including engines, transmissions, doors, fenders, and interior parts. Pre-pulled parts are also sold in the on-site store. The yard doesn’t offer towing or vehicle inspections, so customers must arrange their own transport.

If you’re looking to sell a junk car, truck, or RV, SA Recycling buys them—but the process can be strict. Some customers report issues with title requirements or sudden policy changes at drop-off. For a simpler sale, consider using a specialized junk car buyer that handles titles and logistics upfront.

Customer Experiences & What to Know

Reviews for SA Recycling are mixed. Some customers like the staff, while others complain about pricing and service issues. A few common themes stand out:

  • Pricing complaints: Multiple customers say they were paid less than expected for scrap metal, especially for materials labeled as "tin" or other lower-grade classifications. One reviewer got just $3.74 for 115 pounds of metal, calling it "barely worth the trip."
  • Title and vehicle drop-off problems: Several people had trouble selling junk cars, including sudden title requirements or being turned away without explanation. One customer was told to leave and come back, only to face more issues the second time.
  • Long wait times: Scrap metal drop-offs can take hours, especially on busy days. Some customers waited 45 minutes or more, while others were skipped in favor of "regulars."
  • Good experiences: A few customers had smooth interactions, particularly with the staff. One reviewer called the crew "solid" and said they wouldn’t take scrap anywhere else.

If you’re selling a vehicle, specialized junk car buyers often provide faster, more straightforward transactions without yard policies getting in the way.

This place is a total scam if you’re trying to unload scrap vehicles. Bought a car through Copart, and when I tried to drop it off, they refused the title because it was already in my name—like, how does that even make sense? Every time I show up, they’ve got some new ridiculous rule they’re making up on the spot. Save yourself the headache and go to Desert Metal Recycling on 36th. At least they won’t waste your time. ---

Absolute nightmare trying to sell scrap metal here. First time I went, they made me jump through hoops—ID, license plate, tags—then spent an hour and a half giving me grief over nothing. Finally told me to leave and come back, so I did, only to get the runaround again. Second time, I waited 45 minutes in line just to get a check that no bank would cash except Bank of America—and even then, only during specific hours. Third time, they refused my *clean* brass because I didn’t have a business license. Who even needs that for scrap? Just go somewhere else. Any other yard would’ve been less of a hassle. ---

Took my late father-in-law’s copper to sell, and what a joke. My husband waited 15 minutes just to get skipped by some “regular” they knew. Then, after watching them sort through some random guy’s junk, we finally got to the scale—only to be told they don’t cut checks until 5 PM. We got there at 4:40. Other yards don’t pull this nonsense. Won’t be back, and the attitude from the staff and manager was the cherry on top. ---

The people were nice enough, but the prices? A total rip-off. Got $3.74 for 115 pounds of metal—barely worth the gas to drive there. Saw another review about them calling stuff “tin” to lowball you, and yep, that’s exactly what happened to me. Not worth the trip.

The crew here is solid—always working hard, always friendly. Never had a bad interaction, and I wouldn’t dream of taking my scrap anywhere else. Simple as that. ---
