Overview

Salida Auto Wrecking at 5127 Kiernan Ave, Salida, CA 95368

Salida Auto Wrecking is a self-service auto salvage yard at 5127 Kiernan Ave in Salida. Customers can browse, pick, and remove their own parts from a large selection of salvaged vehicles. The yard specializes in used auto parts like engines, transmissions, body panels, and interior components. They also buy junk cars, though that’s not their main focus.

Services & What to Expect

Salida Auto Wrecking is a self-service yard, meaning you handle part removal yourself. The yard provides basic tools, and you’re responsible for finding, removing, and hauling away the parts you need. This keeps costs low and gives you direct access to a wide range of used auto parts.

What You Can Find

The yard stocks parts from many vehicle makes and models. You’ll often find:

  • Engines and transmissions
  • Body panels (doors, hoods, fenders, bumpers)
  • Interior parts (seats, dashboards, trim)
  • Suspension and drivetrain components
  • Electrical parts (wiring harnesses, sensors, lights)
  • Exhaust systems and catalytic converters
Inventory changes often, so call ahead or check their website for updates.

How Self-Service Works

To use the yard, follow these steps:

  1. Visit during business hours (check the location section for details).
  2. Find the part you need by browsing or asking staff for help.
  3. Use the yard’s tools to remove the part. Basic hand tools are available, but you may need to bring your own for tougher jobs.
  4. Pay for the part at the office before leaving. Pricing is per part with no extra fees for removal.
  5. Load the part into your vehicle. The yard doesn’t help with loading, so plan ahead.
You’re responsible for checking parts before removal—no warranties or guarantees are given.

What to Bring

When you visit, bring:

  • A vehicle to haul parts (trucks or trailers work best for larger items).
  • Basic hand tools (wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers) if you don’t use the yard’s tools.
  • Gloves and safety gear—the yard can be messy and rough.
  • Cash or a payment method the yard accepts (check their website for details).
  • A list of parts you need, including the vehicle make, model, and year.

I waited forever for a callback about a transmission they were supposed to check for me. Never heard back. When I called again to see what was going on, they’d already sold it to someone else. Absolute garbage service, and they don’t even try to be professional. Don’t bother with this place. ---

Fernando’s always fair with prices and goes out of his way to help you track down the parts you need. No hassle, no nonsense—just good, straightforward service. ---

Every time I see their posts on Facebook Marketplace, or even if I know they’ve got the part sitting right there in the yard, they won’t sell it to me. They barely talk to you, and I’ve had nothing but bad luck with this place. I’ve driven past their lot, spotted the exact part I needed on a car, and still turned around to go 30 miles out of my way just to avoid dealing with them. The service is terrible, and honestly? I’d rather pay more somewhere else than waste my time here. ---

I drove an hour and a half to get Camry TRD rims, and when I got there, they were “not available.” One of the employees straight-up told me he wanted them for his mom’s car. Then I asked the lady in the office where they actually were, and she said she’d check the camera—maybe they’d been stolen over the weekend. But then she got stuck on a phone call and completely ignored me. The guy who’d been eyeing the rims for his mom never even looked up from his phone, let alone gave me a straight answer about whether they’d been stolen or if *he’d* taken them. Pretty sure the rims were gone because someone on staff helped themselves.

Walked in and the guy at the counter was on the phone dealing with his car insurance after some family stuff. He stayed calm, wrapped it up, and when I told him what I was looking for—thinking I had all the details—he actually took the time to explain what I *really* needed. Turns out, the info I wanted was on a white sticker inside the glovebox of a Chevy. Anyway, he had the parts I needed, but I had to pull mine off first and bring it in. For some reason, that knocked $200 off the price, bringing it down to $400—sold as-is. Not a bad deal, but not amazing either. I left, drove past another wrecking yard on the way home, and just to check, I asked if they had the same part. Yep, $450, 30-day warranty. Sold. No contest. Just saying—if you’re in Modesto, California Auto Parts on S. 9th St. is the way to go. ---
