The woman at the front desk was actually nice, which made the whole thing even more frustrating. I had two junk cars sitting on railroad tracks with all the right paperwork—police even confirmed they were mine. But then this kid, probably still in high school, stormed out from the back like he owned the place. He acted like I was trying to unload stolen cars, rolled his eyes when I showed him the paperwork, and basically called me a liar without saying it. Worst part? He works at a scrap yard and still didn’t know how to handle scrap. If you’re not right next door, don’t bother—this place is run by a bunch of entitled kids who shouldn’t be near customers. Their other location 26 miles away sent me here, and now I’m stuck dealing with this nonsense. The only good thing was the front desk lady. Everyone else? Terrible. Don’t waste your time. ---

The girl at the counter was super polite, but then some guy came out and ruined it. He didn’t even try to be helpful—just stood there like he was doing me a favor. Made the whole experience feel pointless. ---

I tried to sell some scrap metal, even offered to donate it for free, but they wouldn’t take it. What kind of scrap yard doesn’t buy appliances? And the staff? They laughed at my clothes like I was some kind of joke. Screw that place. I’m done. ---

They pay you right away with a card on file, the people know what they’re doing, and you’re never waiting in line forever. I’ve been going there for 18 years now, ever since I retired from electrical work. It’s just easy. ---

I drove out to the Rancho Cordova location because the downtown Sims place was packed—long lines, people everywhere. Some guy in line mentioned this spot was less crowded, so I made the 25-minute trip. From what I could tell, the 12th Avenue location seems more for big commercial jobs, while Rancho is better for smaller recyclers like me. When I got there, it was pretty empty, and I was the first one unloading. I checked prices between Sims and Universal Service Recyclers, and Sims wins every time. For example: - Yellow brass: $2.00/lb vs. $0.70/lb - Dirty aluminum: $0.44/lb vs. $0.20/lb - Clean lead: $0.38/lb vs. $0.30/lb - Car batteries: $0.12/lb vs. $0.05/lb The staff here are also way friendlier and actually willing to help. No hassle, no attitude—just good service.
