Toyota of Des Moines Parts Store at 1650 SE 37th St, Grimes, IA

The Toyota of Des Moines Parts Store is a dealership-owned parts store and salvage yard at 1650 SE 37th St in Grimes, Iowa. It sells new and used Toyota parts, including OEM components, aftermarket parts, and recycled parts from decommissioned vehicles. Unlike traditional junkyards, this location combines a parts store with a salvage yard where customers can browse and buy parts directly. The store acts as an official Toyota parts distributor, carrying genuine Toyota parts alongside used and recycled components. Customers can visit the salvage yard during business hours to find discounted parts from wrecked or retired Toyotas. The yard is self-service, meaning you can locate and remove parts yourself.

Services & What to Expect

The Toyota of Des Moines Parts Store offers both retail parts sales and salvage yard services. It functions as a dealership parts department with an attached salvage yard, so you can buy new and used parts in one place. The salvage yard is self-service, allowing customers to find and remove parts from decommissioned Toyotas. Staff are on hand to help with part identification and tool access.

  • New and used Toyota parts: The store carries genuine Toyota OEM parts, aftermarket parts, and recycled parts from the salvage yard. This includes engines, transmissions, body panels, interior components, and electrical parts.
  • Self-service salvage yard: Customers can enter the yard during business hours to browse and remove parts from wrecked or retired Toyotas. Tools are usually available on-site.
  • Part lookup and ordering: The store provides part catalogs and online tools to help you find the right part for your Toyota. Some parts may need to be ordered in advance.
  • Installation services: While the focus is on parts sales, the dealership may offer installation for certain components. Check with staff when you visit.
  • Trade-in and core charges: Some parts, like engines and transmissions, come with a core charge if you must return the old part.

The salvage yard is self-service, so you’ll need to locate and remove parts yourself. Staff can assist with part identification and tool access. If you have an old Toyota to get rid of, the dealership may offer cash for junk cars , though this isn’t directly promoted on the parts store page.

The inventory includes parts for a wide range of Toyota models, from older cars to newer vehicles. Common salvage yard parts include:

  • Engines and transmissions
  • Body panels (doors, hoods, fenders)
  • Bumpers and grilles
  • Interior components (seats, dashboards, consoles)
  • Suspension and drivetrain parts
  • Electrical components (wiring harnesses, sensors, lights)

Salvage yard parts are usually cheaper than new ones, making this a good option for repairs or restorations. Bring your own tools or check if the store provides them. You’ll need to remove parts yourself.

Went in with one of their guys last November to order some parts for my DMACC project, and the whole thing went smooth as butter—no hassle, no attitude, just got it done. Fast-forward to today, though, and I called back needing another part. The parts manager acted like I was wasting his time, even had the nerve to say they hadn’t shipped anything to DMACC since last year. That’s a flat-out lie, and honestly, it’s embarrassing for a place that should know better. Parts and service are where dealerships make their real money, so you’d think they’d care more about keeping customers happy. Guess I’ll take my business elsewhere—Wilson Toyota’s got my loyalty now. ---

Bought a car from them, and the markup on parts is just ridiculous. Found the exact same OEM part at a dealer 100 miles away for half the price. No reason to overcharge like that—just feels like they’re taking advantage. ---
