Overview

U Pull-It - Omaha, Nebraska

U Pull-It is a self-service auto salvage yard in South Omaha where customers can find and remove parts from junked vehicles. The yard follows a "you pull it" model—visitors locate the parts they need, cut them out, and pay by the pound for what they take. It’s a go-to spot for DIY mechanics, car restorers, and anyone looking for affordable used auto parts. The business also takes in vehicles for recycling but doesn’t offer cash-for-cars deals.

Services & What to Expect

U Pull-It is a straightforward auto salvage yard focused on self-service part removal. Customers enter, find the parts they need, and remove them themselves. Payment is based on a per-pound fee for the parts taken, plus a small entry fee. The yard doesn’t provide professional part removal or installation.

How Self-Service Works

  • Entry fee: A small fee (usually $5–$10) is charged when you enter, depending on the vehicle.
  • Part removal: Bring your own tools to cut or disassemble parts. The yard offers basic safety gear like gloves.
  • Payment: Parts are weighed at checkout, and you pay by the pound. Prices vary based on the metal type—steel, aluminum, etc.
  • No professional service: U Pull-It sells parts as-is. They don’t clean, machine, or install parts for customers.

What Parts Are Available?

The yard carries a variety of used auto parts from junked vehicles, including:

  • Engines and transmissions (domestic and foreign)
  • Body panels (doors, hoods, fenders, bumpers)
  • Interior parts (seats, dashboards, trim)
  • Suspension and drivetrain parts (control arms, axles, differentials)
  • Electrical components (wiring harnesses, alternators, starters)
  • Braking systems (calipers, rotors, master cylinders)
The inventory changes often as vehicles come and go. There’s no online parts catalog, so you’ll need to visit in person to check what’s available.

The guys here were actually pretty nice and made it easy to find what I needed. Wish they had more of my car’s parts on hand, but I managed to grab what I did need. Prices were fair for used stuff, so no complaints there. ---

Bought a tire here, carried it maybe 100 feet out the door, and it didn’t fit. Went back to return it, and they flat-out refused—even though it was five minutes later. Sixty bucks gone, just like that. Don’t bother unless you enjoy getting ripped off. ---

I was gonna haul my car in myself, but the battery was dead and I didn’t feel like dealing with that mess. I’d already called U-Pull-It to get a quote, so I figured why not just have them pick it up instead. The lady on the phone said sure, no problem, and scheduled it. Then the driver shows up and hits me with a number that was $100 less than what they’d told me over the phone. Not a word about this fee when I called—three times, actually. First to get the quote, then to ask about pickup timing, and finally to set it up. Three chances to mention it, and zero times they did. I asked around—my son, my ex—and neither of them had ever heard of this either. Either they’ve been hiding this for years or it’s brand new and they just forgot to tell anyone. Either way, it’s a crappy way to do business. If I’d known, I would’ve just dragged my car there myself, battery or not. It’s not like it wouldn’t start—it just needed a jump. But now I’m out $100 I didn’t plan on losing, and I needed that money for a busted AC unit at home. The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth, especially since the person I talked to was nice but clearly in a hurry to get off the phone. I’ve been dealing with U-Pull-It for decades, dropping off and picking up junkers, and this is the first time I’ve ever heard of this. If it’s a new policy, say so. If it’s always been this way, say so. Just don’t spring it on someone when they’re already stressed and trying to make a quick sale. A little honesty goes a long way—especially when people are already having a rough go of it. ---

There’s something sad about watching an old car fall apart, especially when it’s something rare. This 1977 Mercedes? Wikipedia says there weren’t many made, and the parts are all custom. Most of them are already broken, which is a shame—it feels like a piece of history slipping away. ---

Don’t waste your time or money here. If you call to ask about inventory, they’ll tell you rows are being pulled, but half the lot is just empty now. I’ve been going weekly for a month, and every section is missing cars—no replacements, just gaps. They raised the entrance fee too, so now you’re paying more for less. This place used to be better, even back when it was the United Auto self-serve lot. The pictures online? All from different sections, so don’t trust them. It’s a mess.
