Services & What to Expect

Does Knik Salvage buy junk cars?
What kind of parts can I find at Knik Salvage?

Do I need to bring my own tools?

Never can reach anyone. Feels like they don't want to sell parts at all. I drove out there once, no one around. Tried again yesterday, same thing. It's not an easy place to get to either, so I burned through gas and time just trying to ask about a part. Three visits, zero answers.

I needed an engine for my truck and they had two listed online. Called ahead and got told there was a two-month wait unless I came down, prepped it myself, and they'd use their loader to finish the job. Handy solution, I thought. Gave my card and drove over the next day. Walked into the office and the person behind the counter handed me a printout with three listed engines. Then the person working the desk—someone different than the one I talked to on the phone—just pointed at a map and said "it might be in any of these sections" while waving vaguely between three areas. My fiancé and a buddy helped me search for an hour. Found the stock number we needed, but no engine. Spot-checking the other two spots didn't turn up much either—one engine was completely blocked in by another vehicle. Walked back to the office and asked if they could move the blocking vehicle with the loader. Their answer: "Sure, once I know when the loader operator's back." I canceled the order and left. Ten out of ten, this place is a waste of time.

Not worth the drive out there. They don't let customers wander the yard. When I asked about prices or parts, they gave me a weird, annoyed answer that didn't help at all. If you're updating your catalog or fixing your pricing list, maybe you should actually respond to questions next time.

Totally bummed. I needed a part for my car and they sent me to some random spot with no signs. The guy just pointed at a wall map and said "right about here." I drove out, looked around for twenty minutes. Nothing. Two other guys were hunting parts too, and they came up empty as well. Couldn't even spot the right rows of cars. I'm not going back. They really should label those rows—all they told us was the color of each vehicle. The guy behind the counter was polite, I'll give him that. But for a place that's been open for years, no signs is just bad service.

Honestly, this place is exactly what you’d picture when you think of a junkyard in the middle of nowhere—except worse. The whole experience felt like a waste of time, and I’m not just saying that because I drove two and a half hours for nothing. The guy on the phone swore they had the part I needed, but when I got there, no one could even confirm it. Then they asked me if my 2001 Ford Ranger was electric or gas. *Really?* Like, how do you not know that? The staff seemed clueless, and the whole vibe was just lazy. My advice? Call ahead and make them *physically check* before you haul yourself out there. And if you do go, bring coffee—you’ll need it.

I’ve called this place at least 15 times over a week, and I’ve never once gotten a real person on the line. Morning, afternoon, different days—nothing. No answer, no callback. At this point, I’m not even sure if they’re still in business.

They quoted me one price over the phone, then hit me with a different one when I showed up, and by the time I paid, it was a third number entirely. Not cool.

Needed a tire and a brake caliper for my truck, found both in under 20 minutes, and was out the door. Fast, no hassle, and the parts were exactly what I needed.

The guy up front couldn’t keep track of anything—promised to pull a part for me, then completely dropped the ball. I called multiple times to confirm, even sent payment details, and he still didn’t get it done. At this point, just tape a Post-it to his desk or something. It’s not rocket science.

These guys are solid—honest, good at what they do, and they double-check everything to make sure you get the right part at a fair price. Troy helped me out and made the whole process smooth. I’ll be back if I need parts again.
