Queen City is easily the best scrap yard around Charlotte. Getting in and out is always quick, and their pricing is solid. The workers greet you with a smile, and they keep the place pretty clean—not a lot of junkyards bother with that. Simple, fast, and fair every time.

I stopped by Queen City Metal Recycling Center today. I’m a teen saving for college, and this was my first time at a scrap yard. Actually, it was my first time at one run by a woman, so I was pretty excited. Coming into a new place like this can feel awkward when you don’t know where to go. I took a wrong turn or two—the buildings all looked the same, I swear. Still, the staff seemed cool, and the place was huge. I brought aluminum cans, bright copper, and some random pieces. They’ve got arrows painted on the ground that lead you straight to a covered drive-thru where they weigh everything right there in front of you. I must’ve looked lost, but whoever helped me was great. The ticket had “Jeff” on it, and he even walked my ID up to the office for me. I didn’t realize you had to stop there first. Once I got back around, they cut me a check that felt really fair. The front desk lady was nice, though I’m pretty sure she wasn’t the owner. She pointed me to the ATM after I got paid, and even though it was busy and a couple people jumped the line, I was in and out without much delay. If you’re nearby and need to sell scrap, give them a try. Everyone was patient and helpful. I’ll definitely be back.

I’ll never go back to this place. They ripped me off on the weight—today I sold over 200 pounds of copper and they only paid me $700. Something’s not right with their scale, or maybe it’s the employees playing games. I wasted good material here. I usually sell to Foss Recycling instead—they’re honest. This place needs to stop cheating people.

Queen City Metal Recycling is great. Their team’s always nice and moves quick. The prices are good, and the whole process is quick and painless. I’ve used them a few times now, and they’re the first place I go in Charlotte when I need to sell scrap.

The people here are friendly and really go out of their way to help. The signs are clear, and if you get stuck, anyone will drop what they’re doing to get you sorted. Super easy to deal with and the prices are right. I keep coming back.

Called ahead to make sure they were open—got told “yeah, till noon.” Showed up at 11:40, and the gate was locked. Knocked, honked, even tried calling back, but nobody answered. Just a handwritten sign taped to the fence that said “CLOSED EARLY.” Meanwhile, three other yards in the area pay better *and* actually stay open when they say they will. Skip this one unless you enjoy driving 20 minutes out of your way for nothing. ---

Dude at the scales didn’t just do his job—he made the whole process easy. No waiting, no confusion, just straight answers. And the prices? Better than the last two places I tried. No drama, no hassle. If every scrap yard ran this smooth, I’d never complain about recycling again. Already planning my next trip here. ---

Look, I don’t usually leave bad reviews—what’s the point?—but this place made me break my own rule. The staff? Polite enough, I’ll give them that. They smiled, answered questions, even walked me through the process like I was their only customer. But here’s the thing: their prices are a joke. I checked the same day at another yard, and they were paying 20 cents more per pound for the exact same scrap. And don’t even get me started on their scales. They swore up and down the things were certified, but when I told them my empty trailer weighs 4,200 lbs and their scale said 4,280, they just shrugged. “Maybe your trailer’s heavier than you think.” Yeah, sure. I know my own equipment. Bottom line? I’m not wasting my time here again, and I’d tell anyone else to think twice unless they’re *desperate* for the location. ---

Hands down the best spot in Charlotte for scrap. Prices are always fair, and they’re open six days a week—no weird “closed for inventory” excuses. The owner isn’t just sitting in an office; he’s out there working with the crew, which says something. Every time I’ve been in, the staff remembers me, asks how my haul was, even throws in a free coffee if you’re there early. Not exaggerating when I say this is the only place I’ll go now. ---

It’s fine, I guess. Some of their buy-back rates are decent, and if you’re just dropping off shred, you’re in and out fast. But anything else? Forget it. The line moves slower than molasses, and half the time, the prices flip-flop depending on who’s working that day. Top Price down the road pays more *and* doesn’t make you wait an hour to unload. Oh, and their “open till 4” policy? More like “open till we feel like it.” Called once during a rainstorm, let it ring 10 times, and they just hung up. No voicemail, no nothing. Like they don’t even *want* your business. Wouldn’t go back unless I had no other choice.
