Overview

Stafford's Auto Parts and Recycling at 900 N Main St, Montgomery, IL 60538

Stafford's Auto Parts and Recycling has been a Montgomery, Illinois, auto salvage yard and used parts dealer since 1974. The yard carries a large stock of used parts from domestic and foreign vehicles, including cars, trucks, and classic models from the 1940s through the 1970s. Customers can browse the yard themselves to find rare or hard-to-find parts or visit the parts counter for pre-inspected components. The business also recycles scrap metal for individuals and businesses.

Services & What to Expect

Stafford's is a salvage yard, meaning customers can search for parts during business hours. The yard holds thousands of vehicles—new, old, and classic—with parts available either from the yard or at the parts counter.

  • Visit during business hours (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM).
  • Enter the yard and locate the vehicle with the part they need.
  • Pay at the parts counter.
Tools are available for rent or purchase if needed, and staff can help identify which vehicles may have the part you're looking for.

Zero stars if I could. Fenix ruined what was once a great family business just to chase profits. Every employee I’ve talked to now is clueless about cars and parts. Don’t waste your time—it’ll cost way more than it’s worth, and you'll regret even stepping foot near this place.

It's called "recycled" parts, but at least the old place graded them properly. I ordered a grade A and ended up with a junky grade X that looked like it came from a scrap heap. Took four days to ship a piece of trash that was worse than what was on the car. When I asked why they sent this garbage out, the reply was, "I don’t know, I didn’t do the paperwork." Makes you wonder where their quality control actually is.

Tanner and Brandon must be the absolute worst salespeople I've ever dealt with. The order I placed weeks ago still isn't here, and when I tried to follow up, they claimed they lost the paperwork I sent within ten minutes of ordering. Deadlines came and went without a word, and getting someone to even acknowledge my missing documents was impossible. The owner really needs to have a talk with them, because right now they're completely failing.

This junkyard’s going under, and fast. Just check the reviews lately. They might close soon. First, try calling them—good luck getting through. It rings at some random Fenix place somewhere in the country. Even when you do get through, you wait ten minutes, sometimes thirty before giving up. They ship parts from God knows where. I order a specific stock number and get something different, usually junk. Then I drive all day to pick them up, and sure enough, everything’s trashed. And don’t even think about asking for a refund—three weeks in and they still haven’t sent one. Had to fight my credit card company over it. Stay far away.

Fenix completely wrecked this place. Staffords used to be top-notch, easily the best junkyard in the state, maybe even the whole Midwest. Everything was fast, accurate, and reliable. Dave ran the place right. Now? Fenix turned it into chaos. Delivery times mean nothing, and good luck getting anyone on the phone. Sometimes it's cheaper and way easier to just pay an extra $50-100 on eBay and skip the headache.

Look, I get that places get busy, but this junkyard’s communication is a joke. They told me my part would take three days—ended up being twice that. And good luck calling them. I left three messages over two hours, no response. Finally, some guy picked up, acted like he had no idea what I was talking about, then just said, “Yeah, it’s coming.” No apology, no explanation. If you’re in a hurry, go somewhere else.

This used to be Stafford Auto Parts, and back then, it was solid—good parts, good service, no headaches. I bought a lot from them. Now it’s Fenix, and honestly? It’s a joke. Wrong parts, late deliveries, calls that go unanswered. I’m done. Won’t be back. ---

I don’t usually write bad reviews, but this one’s hard to ignore. I run a dealership in Wisconsin and called to buy a rare hood in a specific color they had listed. The first person I talked to was supposed to set up a wholesale account for me, but I just got their voicemail. Left a long message with all the details—nothing. Two days later, I called back and actually got someone on the phone, so I gave them my email and info directly. Still, two more days went by with no email. Finally, on the third call, they sent the sign-up link within five minutes. But by then? The hood was already sold to someone else the day before. Now I’m stuck paying double for a different color and having it repainted. I spent a week trying to get that part, and the whole thing fell apart because of missed calls and slow responses. The only reason this isn’t a one-star is that the woman who finally helped me was nice and actually followed through. The parts here might be good, but the experience was a mess. ---

Okay, where do I even start? The staff here lies, and when you call them on it, they act like *you’re* the problem. I’ve been trying for a week to track down a part I *paid for*, and now they’re telling me I never ordered it—just that it’s “saved as a quote.” Two days ago, they gave me an order number, the exact vehicle details, and even told me it’d be late. When I said, “Wait, you told me I ordered this,” they got defensive, told me to stop accusing them of lying, and said it wasn’t their issue. Unbelievable. Don’t waste your money here. They’ll screw you over. ---

Straight-up good parts, fair prices, no nonsense. Shoutout to Tom—he’s made ordering parts way simpler than dealing with other places. He’s always helpful, gives good rates, and gets it when we’ve got tight deadlines or returns. Even when things get tricky, he works with us. Can’t ask for more than that. Looking forward to more orders with him.
