History and Ownership
Cousineau Auto Parts has operated since the 1940s, establishing itself as one of Wisconsin’s longest-running auto recycling businesses. Currently led by Daniel Cousineau, who serves as the President & Founder, the company has maintained a tradition of family ownership for over eight decades.
The business has grown from a small local operation to a respected name in the automotive recycling industry, with its Schofield location serving as one of their primary facilities. This longevity speaks to the company’s commitment to quality service and reliability—traits that have helped it thrive while many similar businesses have come and gone.
Like many automotive recycling businesses in the Midwest, Cousineau has adapted over the decades, expanding its services and embracing new technologies while maintaining its core focus on providing quality used auto parts.

Business Model
Cousineau operates as a full-service junkyard rather than a self-service facility. This means they employ experienced sales specialists and technicians who locate, remove, and prepare parts for customers. Their model focuses on providing ready-to-install parts rather than requiring customers to extract parts themselves.
Additionally, the company offers nationwide shipping for parts, making their inventory accessible to customers across the United States. This service is particularly valuable for those seeking rare or specific parts that might not be available locally.
All parts come with warranty support, with coverage periods varying by part type (more details in the warranty section below).
Cash for Junk Cars Program
Cousineau Auto Parts actively buys junk cars from the general public, offering cash for vehicles in any condition. Their vehicle purchasing program accepts cars whether they’re operational or not, making it an excellent option for getting rid of unwanted vehicles.
To sell your car to Cousineau, you can simply submit their online form or call 1–800–642–2550 to receive a cash offer. The process is streamlined and designed to provide fair value for vehicles in any condition—from lightly used cars to total wrecks.
This service complements their parts business, as purchased vehicles feed into their inventory of recycled parts and repairable vehicles. If you’re looking to get cash for your junk car rather than letting it rust away, Cousineau provides a straightforward solution.
Vehicle Types and Inventory
Cousineau Auto Parts maintains a diverse inventory of used vehicles, including cars, trucks, and SUVs. Their stock focuses primarily on repairables—vehicles they’ve repaired and refurbished for resale.
While specific makes and models vary based on their current inventory, they typically carry a range of common brands found in the used automotive market. Their selection includes domestic manufacturers like Ford and Chevrolet, as well as foreign brands such as Toyota and Honda.
The yard specializes in vehicles that can be restored to functional condition, often from late-model years rather than the newest models. This approach allows them to offer more affordable options for customers seeking reliable transportation without the price tag of a brand-new vehicle.
For those in the market for a used vehicle, Cousineau provides assistance in finding family-friendly options that match specific needs and budgets.
Popular Auto Parts
The most sought-after used auto parts at Cousineau Auto Parts typically include high-value, durable parts that are cost-effective to replace with used versions rather than new. These popular items represent significant savings opportunities for budget-conscious car owners.
Top 10 Most Requested Auto Parts
Engines and Transmissions
These major parts represent the biggest potential savings, often costing thousands less than new replacements. Complete engines, transmissions, or subparts like cylinder heads and torque converters remain consistently in demand.
Body Panels and Bumpers
Critical for collision repairs, used car fenders and bumpers offer significant savings over new OEM replacements. These parts often come color-matched and ready to install.
Suspension Parts Used suspension parts like shock absorbers, coil springs, and control arms provide excellent value. These parts typically maintain their function even after considerable vehicle use.
Brake System Parts (excluding wear items)
Brake calipers, rotors, and ABS modules remain popular choices. While brake pads and other wear items should be purchased new, many brake system parts function perfectly when sourced used.
Interior Parts
Seats, dashboards, and trim pieces—especially for older or discontinued models—represent substantial savings when purchased used. These parts often show little wear despite vehicle age.
Electrical Parts
Alternators, starters, power steering pumps, and electronic control units cost a fraction of new parts when purchased used. Many salvage yards test these parts before sale.
Exhaust Systems Used catalytic converters and exhaust manifolds remain high-demand items, especially as emissions part prices continue to rise.
Tires and Wheels Used tires and wheels with sufficient tread depth offer immediate savings over new sets, particularly for alloy wheels that retain their value.
Fuel System Parts Used fuel pumps and injectors provide significant savings without sacrificing performance. Many of these parts remain in excellent condition despite vehicle age.
Air Conditioning/Heating Parts
AC compressors, condenser coils, and heater cores from salvage yards offer dramatic savings over new parts, especially for older models.
These parts are popular due to their high replacement costs when new and their durability, making used versions a practical choice for repairs or upgrades. Cousineau Auto Parts often tests and certifies these parts to ensure functionality.

They closed at 5 on Tuesday. I started calling at 4 to see if they had car part I needed. I was on hold for over half an hour, then a woman answered, saying, “hello”, and I said hello back… Then it was silent..I could hear we were still connected, so I said, “can you hear me”.. Then she just hung up. So I called back to be on hold again, but y this time it was 4:30ish pm. Again, I was on hold for awhile but not as long, this time someone answered & was able to help me with the parts we needed for our car. However we would have to prepay before they'd send their part remover guy out. So first thing next morning, we were out there and took care of payment with receipt. A few hours later return to pick up the parts and my husband who's knows a lot about cars, told her that what we ordered wouldn't work for our car as it was missing a piece that our cars old part had, but she assured him that it would fit any car of our type 2013-2017. So we took it home and ran a few errands and then hubby got to work.. He was back in the house within less than 15 minutes saying it's not going to work. He was quite upset for various reasons as we had plans to go out of town just him sky i for a few nights, just to be together and away from kids, grandkids, work etc.. Then the day we were supposed to leave the radiator blew, so that was the part we needed, plus the fan assembly kit, the farm assembly kit is perfect, but the radiator she gave us wasn't, so yes very upset because he told her specifically while we were there that it wouldn't work, and he even brought the extra piece that goes on the part we had on the original.. That the used one we were getting did not have, but again she insisted it would. So another day home, have to wait till they open to take it back and looks like we're going to have order the part online… Unless a miracle happens tomorrow. Fingers crossed it does, we need this time together, alone, to do whatever we want, without having to worry about rushing home, or babysitting, or playing taxi. Ughh. Other than this experience today, all of our other experiences with them over the years has been excellent.
