Services Provided: Full-Service Salvage and Recycling
Heilmeier’s Auto Salvage operates as a full-service salvage yard, focusing on automotive recycling and parts reuse. Unlike self-service junkyards where customers remove parts themselves, Heilmeier’s professional staff handles the dismantling process, ensuring proper extraction and handling of valuable parts.
Core Services
Used Auto Parts Sales: The yard specializes in dismantling vehicles to salvage reusable parts for resale. Their inventory spans various makes and models, providing options for customers seeking affordable repair solutions.
Vehicle Acquisition: Heilmeier’s purchases used cars, trucks, and vans, offering cash for junk cars in various conditions. Their towing service makes it convenient for sellers to transport vehicles to the yard.
Environmental Recycling: Beyond parts sales, the business demonstrates a commitment to responsible recycling, properly disposing of fluids, metals, and other materials that can’t be reused.
While their operational model focuses primarily on selling used auto parts rather than whole vehicles, Heilmeier’s connection to the Hollander Parts network suggests they may offer shipping options for customers unable to pick up parts in person.
Vehicle Types: Diverse Automotive Inventory
As part of the Hollander Parts network, Heilmeier’s Auto Salvage has access to an extensive system connecting over 3,000 recycling yards and more than 157 million used auto parts. While specific makes and models available at any given time aren’t publicly listed, their inventory likely includes a wide range of domestic and import vehicles.
The business emphasizes interchange compatibility, meaning parts from one vehicle may fit others across different years and models. This system helps customers find suitable parts even when their exact vehicle type isn’t in the yard’s current inventory.
For the most up-to-date information about currently available vehicles and parts, customers are encouraged to call Heilmeier’s directly at (251) 943–8680 or 800–303–8962.
Popular Auto Parts: High-Demand Used Car Parts
The most commonly purchased items at salvage yards like Heilmeier’s Auto Salvage typically include durable, reusable parts that offer significant cost savings compared to new replacements. Based on industry standards, these high-demand parts generally include:
Major Mechanical Components
Engines: Often sought after due to the high cost of replacement when purchased new
Transmissions: Popular for the substantial savings compared to new or remanufactured units
Differential and Axle Assemblies: Critical drivetrain parts that can be expensive when bought new
Body and Structural Parts
Bumpers, doors, hoods, and fenders: Commonly needed for collision repairs or customization projects
Front-end assemblies: Including grilles, headlights, and other exterior parts
Electrical systems: Alternators, starters, and power steering pumps (when tested and functional)
Interior parts: Seats, door panels, and dashboards for vehicles with damaged interiors
These parts are particularly popular because they’re expensive to replace new, yet when purchased from a salvage yard like Heilmeier’s, they can often be had for a fraction of the retail price while maintaining reliability.
Parts Pricing: Fair Market Values for Used Auto Parts
While Heilmeier’s Auto Salvage doesn’t publicly list current auto part prices online, customer reviews note the owner is “honest” and offers “fair prices,” suggesting competitive rates within the used parts market. For the most accurate and up-to-date pricing information, customers should contact the salvage yard directly at (251) 943–8680.
Pricing for used auto parts typically reflects several factors, including:
– Part demand and availability
– Vehicle age and model
– Part condition
– Current market rates for new equivalents
The business operates Tuesday through Saturday from 8 AM to 5 PM, making these the best times to inquire about specific part pricing.

The yard’s strategic location makes it accessible to residents from both Alabama’s coastal communities and nearby Florida areas.
Interchange System: Finding Compatible Parts
Heilmeier’s Auto Salvage utilizes the Hollander Parts Interchange system to help customers locate compatible auto parts across different vehicle makes and models. As a registered seller on Hollander’s platform, they provide access to a sophisticated cross-referencing database that identifies interchangeable parts from various vehicles.
This system works by allowing customers to search for parts using their vehicle’s specifications (make, model, year, and part name), which generates a list of compatible options available in their inventory or through other affiliated salvage yards. This approach significantly expands the range of potential parts that might fit a customer’s vehicle, even when the exact make or model isn’t available.
Key features of their interchange system include:
– Online search capabilities: Customers can use Hollander’s software to find compatible parts
– Inventory integration: Cross-references parts from multiple vehicles to locate alternatives
– Verification guidance: Staff can advise on compatibility questions
For direct assistance with finding the right parts using the interchange system, customers can contact Heilmeier’s via phone or visit their location during business hours.

Common Questions About Heilmeier’s Auto Salvage
1. What documents do I need to sell my car to a junkyard?
To sell a vehicle to Heilmeier’s Auto Salvage, you’ll typically need proof of ownership such as the vehicle title, auction sales receipt, mechanic’s lien, storage lot lien, or repossession affidavit. Some states mandate a title for legal transfer, while others may accept alternative proof of ownership.
2. Can I sell a car with a salvage title to a junkyard?
Most junkyards approach salvage-titled vehicles with caution due to ethical concerns, as these titles indicate severe damage or insurance-declared total losses. However, some may still buy salvage-titled cars if they can extract usable parts, though the process may involve additional scrutiny.
3. How do junkyards determine the value of my vehicle?
Salvage yards assess value based on factors like the car’s make, model, age, condition, and current demand for its parts. Operational vehicles may also be evaluated by mileage, while non-running cars are often priced based on scrap metal value or recyclable parts.
4. Do I need to prove ownership to sell my car?
Yes, professionally operated junkyards require proof of ownership to prevent fraud and ensure legal compliance. This is a standard practice across the industry to maintain accountability and avoid liability issues.
5. Can I donate my car instead of selling it for cash?
Many junkyards accept vehicle donations, particularly those involved in recycling programs. While you won’t receive immediate cash, donations may qualify for tax deductions, making this option ideal for those prioritizing environmental impact over financial gain.
6. Is towing free when selling a junk car?
Most salvage yards offer free towing services to incentivize sellers and ensure they retain the full payment amount. This benefit eliminates towing costs, making the transaction more attractive for sellers.
7. Can I negotiate the price when selling my car to a junkyard?
Price haggling is uncommon in junkyard transactions due to low profit margins. Salvage yards typically prioritize streamlined transactions and may not engage in negotiations to maintain consistent pricing practices.

I have had a couple of excellent experiences with Mr. Terry now at Heilmeier's Auto Salvage. He is honest, professional and the epitome of a true Southern gentleman. His prices are fair and it's a pleasure to do business with him. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I much prefer handling my business with Heilmeier's than the hassle of doing business online or with someone who doesn't know what they're doing. Thank you sir !

Rated this company 4/5
As a fan of old cars, I was thrilled to get the chance to explore another old yard. The southern humidity and sea air doesn't do any favors to sheetmetal, and the cars showed it.
Living inland, in a drier climate may have made me spoiled on finding rust free metal left in a salvage, but it was fun to see the cars in inventory. The only real damper on my experience was the the mosquitoes.
