Welcome to Hickory Grove Auto, a salvage yard located at 3300 Hickory Grove Rd, Davenport, IA 52806. This comprehensive article will provide you with all the details you need to know about this establishment, from its history and services to the types of vehicles and auto parts available.

Establishment and Ownership

Hickory Grove Auto was established in 2011, according to the Better Business Bureau profile. The junkyard has been a part of the Davenport community for over a decade.

The area has a rich history of junkyards and auto salvage operations. For instance, Hickory Grove Auto Parts, another business in Davenport, has been operating since 2009, preparing for the influx of “clunker” vehicles under the Cash for Clunkers program.

Interestingly, the area's agricultural roots can be traced back to Hickory Grove Farm, a 145-acre farm purchased by Sherman Depew in 1916 and operational until the 1940s. While not directly related to junkyards, this provides context on the area's historical significance.

Vehicle Types

Hickory Grove Auto is a wrecking yard that offers a variety of vehicles for sale. While the specific years are not mentioned, they likely carry a mix of older and newer vehicles. Some of the types of vehicles you can find at the yard include:

  • Late Model Stock Cars: High-performance vehicles designed for racing, often featuring powerful engines and advanced suspension systems.
  • Super Trucks: Large, heavy-duty trucks designed for hauling heavy loads and towing large trailers.
  • Street Stock Cars: General-purpose passenger vehicles, such as sedans and hatchbacks, commonly used for daily driving.
  • Renegade Vehicles: Smaller, lighter vehicles designed for racing and competition, such as compact cars and sports cars.
  • Crown Vic: A full-size sedan known for its durability and reliability, often used for police and taxi services.

These vehicles can be sourced for parts, scrap metal, or even restoration projects. The inventory may include a variety of makes and models, including those from well-known manufacturers like Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge.

While Hickory Grove Auto does not explicitly list the most commonly purchased auto parts, customer reviews and descriptions of their services provide some insights into the types of parts they typically offer:

  • Used Tires: The junkyard has a decent used tire section that is kept in order, allowing customers to inspect the tires before purchase.
  • Engine and Transmission Components: They likely carry a variety of used engine and transmission components, such as fuel pumps, alternators, and other mechanical parts.
  • Body and Frame Parts: The junkyard might have a range of used body and frame parts, including doors, hoods, fenders, and other structural components.
  • Suspension and Steering Components: They may offer used suspension and steering parts, such as control arms, ball joints, and steering racks.
  • Electrical and Electronic Components: Hickory Grove Auto may sell used electrical and electronic components like starters, alternators, and other accessories.

Warranty Information

While there is limited information available on their specific warranty policies, here are some general insights and industry standards to consider:

  • Most professional salvage yards offer a standard warranty of at least 90 days on the parts they sell.
  • Some yards offer extended warranties for labor coverage or insurance at an additional cost, providing peace of mind for customers.
  • The cost of extended warranties can vary depending on the provider and the type of coverage.
  • It's important to note that standard warranties typically do not cover labor costs if a part fails within the warranty period, meaning customers are responsible for labor costs associated with reinstalling the part.
  • Hickory Grove Auto is not BBB accredited, which may indicate a lack of transparency or inconsistent service quality.

It is recommended to inquire about their specific warranty terms, including any extended warranty options and associated costs, before making a purchase. Additionally, considering the mixed reviews and lack of accreditation, it is advisable to exercise caution when dealing with this salvage yard.

Entry Fee and Discounts

Hickory Grove Auto does not charge a cover fee to enter the premises, and they accept credit cards, indicating that there is no entrance fee. However, they do not explicitly mention any specific discounts on their Yelp page.

It's always best to contact the business directly to inquire about any potential promotions or deals they may be offering. You can call them at (855) 484-5767 or visit their Yelp page for more details.

Safety Gear:

  • Steel-toed boots or sturdy shoes
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses or goggles
  • A hat and long sleeves

Mechanical Tools:

  • Wrenches (adjustable and fixed)
  • Socket sets
  • Pliers (needle-nose and slip-joint)
  • Screwdrivers (flathead and Phillips)
  • Torque wrenches
  • Air tools (if available)

Additional Tools:

  • A jack or hydraulic lift
  • A hydraulic jack stand
  • A set of tire irons
  • A tire pressure gauge

Hickory Grove Auto provides some tools, but it's recommended to bring your own to ensure you have the specific tools needed for your particular part. Safety gear is not provided, so it's crucial to bring your own for personal protection.

For specific parts, you may need additional tools depending on the type of part and the vehicle it comes from. For example, engine parts may require specialized tools like a timing light or compression gauge, while brake parts may require tools like a brake bleeding kit or caliper piston compressor.

Interchange System

No, Hickory Grove Auto does not provide an auto parts interchange system. They are a salvage yard where customers can search for and purchase used car parts from their inventory. They do not offer a system to find compatible parts across different models and locations.

However, other services like Pull-A-Part offer an online parts interchange database where users can search for compatible parts across different models and locations. This system helps customers quickly find the parts they need without having to visit multiple junkyards.

This is a junkyard that you have to sign in with your name and date at the counter on the left. Otherwise, they'll tell you to. It's a “pick your own part” kind of junkyard. It does get muddy after a good rain. Besides that, like all junkyards, watch your step. You're personally liable to some extent, for yourself. The guy up at the front with the white goatee can be a bit brash sometimes, depending on his mood for the day. But all in all a good ‘ol boy. I've always found good deals there. And the front counter dude has in the past taken offers I've asked him about. They have a decent used tire section that is kept in order. And you can look through the tires inside and out before you purchase. They don't mind if you have to work on your vehicle in the parking lot.

The guys who run it must be mad at life. Never been talked to so rudely and over charged for a used part ever. And the last time I went there they didn’t have what I needed so I walked out the open gate and the guy comes out screaming at me that I was stealing something and clearly wasn’t. Had to lift up my shirt to prove I didn’t. I’d rather go to any other place to get my parts than these ppl.

Pat really knows his stuff. He's been there for ages. Some may feel he's grumpy sometimes. It's just that he knows what he's talking about and every one in awhile some clown will go in there acting like they know more than him.thats when you see that pat. Otherwise he's a good man and he will not bs you. He's not there to play games he takes his job very seriously.
