Universal Salvage Co was established in 1985 and has been serving the Evansville area and surrounding communities for over 39 years. The business was officially incorporated as a Limited Liability Company (LLC) on December 30, 1985, making it one of the area’s longest-standing auto salvage yards.
In 2020, the business underwent a change in ownership, with Mr. Kyle Hamrick taking over operations. Under his leadership, the company continues its tradition of providing quality service while maintaining a team of 24 dedicated employees who specialize in used and rebuilt auto parts for late-model vehicles.
This wrecking yard operates within the rich automotive history of Evansville, a region that once hosted notable manufacturers like the Graham Brothers (early 20th-century truck producers) and Chrysler, which maintained a plant in the area until the 1950s. This industrial legacy has helped create an ecosystem supporting long-standing automotive-related businesses like Universal Salvage.

As a full-service junkyard, Universal Salvage Co specializes in providing used and rebuilt auto parts for late-model vehicles (1990 and newer). Their extensive inventory includes engines, transmissions, doors, wheels, and numerous other parts that can save customers substantial money compared to buying new.
What sets them apart from many other salvage yards is their nationwide parts locating service, which allows them to source hard-to-find parts when they’re not available in their immediate inventory. This gives customers access to a much wider range of options than what’s physically on their lot.
For those wondering where to find a used car hood for sale at local junkyards or looking to find quality used car seats at local junkyards, Universal Salvage is a go-to destination in the Evansville area.
Beyond simply selling parts, Universal Salvage provides professional installation services for the parts they sell. Their skilled technicians can handle various installation jobs, from rear glass and sliding windows to more complex work like brake and A/C repairs.
This comprehensive approach means customers don’t need to find a separate repair shop after purchasing parts, streamlining the repair process and often saving both time and money.
The business has a dedicated scrap metal department that purchases industrial and commercial scrap metals including copper, brass, and aluminum. Customer reviews consistently mention fair pricing and quick service when bringing in materials for recycling.
Universal Salvage Co buys junk cars from the general public, offering cash payments regardless of vehicle condition. They provide additional services like free towing and same-day pickup, making it convenient for sellers to get rid of unwanted vehicles.
Whether your car is non-running, damaged, or simply at the end of its useful life, they’ll typically make an offer. This service helps vehicle owners get some value from cars that might otherwise be a liability or expense to dispose of properly. If you’re wondering about how to sell your junk car in hours, Universal Salvage could be your solution.
Universal Salvage Co specializes in late-model vehicles from 1990 and newer, offering a diverse inventory of used auto parts for various makes and models. While their specific inventory constantly changes as vehicles come and go, they maintain a wide selection that caters to most common automotive brands.
Their stock typically includes parts for popular makes such as Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, Honda, and many others. The yard houses a variety of vehicle types, including cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs, ensuring that most customers can find what they need.
What makes Universal Salvage particularly valuable is their nationwide parts locating service, which allows them to source parts beyond their physical inventory. This means that even if they don’t have a specific part in stock, they can often locate it through their network.
For those looking for reliable used starters at wrecking yards or other specific parts, it’s best to call ahead to check current availability, as inventory at any salvage yard changes regularly based on recent acquisitions.
When shopping at Universal Salvage Co or similar salvage yards in Evansville, certain parts are consistently in high demand due to their suitability for purchasing used rather than new. These high-ticket items often represent significant savings compared to purchasing new OEM or aftermarket replacements.
It’s worth noting that certain wear items like belts, bulbs, brake pads, and filters are generally better purchased new due to their regular replacement nature and safety considerations. Universal Salvage focuses on durable, reusable parts rather than consumables.
Universal Salvage Co emphasizes competitive pricing on their used auto parts and scrap metal services, though they don’t publicly list specific prices on their website or in available materials. Their business model focuses on providing fair market value while maintaining quality service.
While exact rates aren’t published, customer testimonials consistently mention satisfaction with their pricing structure, noting they “pay top dollar” for scrap cars and offer competitive rates for parts. Their nationwide parts locating service allows them to “aggressively compete and beat all competition” according to their website.
For current pricing information, customers should contact Universal Salvage directly at (812) 425–6238 or toll-free at (800) 800–3348. Because inventory and market conditions constantly change in the automotive recycling industry, calling ahead ensures you receive the most accurate and up-to-date pricing for specific parts or scrap metal rates.
As a point of reference, nearby salvage yards in the region have been known to offer rates such as $29.95 for back glass or $30 for windshields, though Universal Salvage’s specific rates may differ.
Universal Salvage Co serves the greater Evansville area, drawing customers from numerous surrounding communities in both Indiana and Kentucky. Their strategic location in Evansville makes them accessible to residents throughout the tri-state region.

While Universal Salvage Co doesn’t explicitly advertise an online interchange system in the available materials, they do offer a robust approach to helping customers find compatible parts across different vehicles. Their assistance with parts compatibility comes through two primary channels:
Unlike some facilities that offer self-service online interchange tools, Universal Salvage appears to rely more on direct customer interaction and their established network. Their approach combines personal service with broad searching capabilities, though customers needing to verify cross-compatibility may want to bring specific vehicle information when visiting.
For those uncertain about compatibility, bringing the vehicle’s VIN or exact model information can help the staff determine appropriate parts options more efficiently. The auto recycling industry increasingly uses specialized software to index interchangeable parts, though Universal Salvage’s specific systems aren’t detailed in the available information.
Based on the search results provided, Universal Salvage Co does not explicitly detail its warranty policies in publicly available documentation. Neither their BBB profile nor company website specifies warranty terms, durations, or costs.
For comparison, other salvage yards in the industry typically offer structured warranties such as:
To obtain precise details about Universal Salvage Co’s current warranty terms, direct contact with the company is recommended at (812) 425–6238 or toll-free at (800) 800–3348. Their parts department operates Monday–Friday from 7 AM to 4 PM.
When purchasing used parts from any salvage yard, it’s advisable to clarify warranty coverage before completing your transaction, particularly for major items like engines or transmissions where potential repair costs could be significant.
Universal Salvage Co does not appear to charge an entry or cover fee for customers visiting their facility. As a full-service salvage yard specializing in used auto parts and scrap metal recycling, their business model focuses on sales and services rather than charging for access.
Their operating approach differs from self-service “u-pull-it” style junkyards, which sometimes charge entry fees in exchange for allowing customers to remove parts themselves. Universal Salvage instead operates with staff who assist customers, pull parts, and provide installation services.
While there are no mentioned discounts in the provided materials, their website emphasizes “competitive pricing” and their ability to “aggressively compete and beat all competition,” suggesting they aim to offer attractive rates on both parts and scrap metal transactions.
For the most current information on pricing or any potential special offers, customers are encouraged to contact them directly at (812) 425–6238 or the toll-free number (800) 800–3348.

This place REALLY ROCKS! Thanking you guys for the professional install of the entire rear glass and sliding window assembly on my 2008 FORD F150 TRITON!
Self explanatory, guys was in a decent mood today
Ray is amazing. He always finds the part used in great condition saving you a ton of money and frankly the whole shop has a standard of hard work dignity and fairness and respect. They are great people
Very helpful and fair on pricing if not happy with a price they r happy to negotiate
I went to this place to buy two fenders and a door, and I told them that if there's any rust on the spot welds or any cracks or any defects that we couldn't see on the fenders and door while they took them off I didn't want them, they sold me the parts knowing full well that they were bad. I am never going to use universal salvage for parts ever again, they are dishonest and they are bad for business.
