Overview

Hooper's Used Auto Parts - Dallas, NC

Hooper's Used Auto Parts is a self-service auto salvage yard in Dallas, North Carolina. Customers can find used car parts, scrap metal, and other automotive components here. The yard runs on a "u-pull-it" model—you locate and remove the parts yourself. It’s a common spot for DIY mechanics, car owners needing repairs, and anyone looking for affordable alternatives to new parts. The business has been around for years, with a steady flow of vehicles coming in for dismantling. You bring your own tools and pay by the pound for the parts you take. The yard also takes in junk cars for scrap but doesn’t buy vehicles for resale.

Services & What to Expect

Hooper's is a self-service salvage yard, meaning you’re responsible for finding and removing parts. The yard has a mix of vehicles—cars, trucks, and SUVs—in various stages of disassembly. Parts range from engines and transmissions to body panels, interior pieces, and electrical components. Don’t expect professional disassembly or cleaned parts—you’ll need to prep them before installation.

How Self-Service Works

  • Bring your own tools. The yard doesn’t provide any, so you’ll need wrenches, sockets, or whatever else is required for the job.
  • Find parts yourself. Vehicles are grouped by make and model, but you’ll have to search for what you need.
  • Pay by the pound. Pricing is based on the weight of the parts you take, not individual components.
  • Parts are sold as-is. Some may need cleaning or minor repairs before you can use them.
  • Drop off junk cars. The yard accepts scrap vehicles but doesn’t buy cars for resale. For selling a junk car, check out our cash for junk cars page .

What Parts Are Available?

Inventory changes often as new vehicles are brought in. Common parts include:

  • Engines and transmissions (domestic and foreign)
  • Body panels (doors, fenders, hoods, bumpers)
  • Interior parts (seats, dashboards, consoles)
  • Suspension and steering (control arms, ball joints, tie rods)
  • Braking systems (calipers, rotors, brake pads)
  • Electrical components (starters, alternators, wiring harnesses)
  • Exhaust systems (headers, catalytic converters, mufflers)

The yard doesn’t specialize in rare or classic car parts, but you might find components from older vehicles depending on recent acquisitions.

What to Bring

  • A list of the parts you need, along with the vehicle make and model for reference
  • Basic hand tools (wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers)
  • A jack and jack stands (if removing heavy components)
  • Gloves and safety glasses (parts can be dirty or sharp)
  • A way to transport parts (some components are bulky)
  • Cash or a debit/credit card (the yard doesn’t take checks)

Qua was a lifesaver—went way out of his way to help us find the right part for our car. Dude’s a hard worker, and those are rare these days. You guys got lucky with him!

This place was a nightmare. I called every single day for a week, asking about a part I ordered, and they kept saying, *"Oh, it’ll ship today."* Spoiler: it never did. They just said that to shut me up. Now I’m out money and time, and I wouldn’t send my worst enemy here. Avoid at all costs. ---

I got a part from these guys, and they swore it was in good shape. Next day, I show up to grab it, and there are two huge dents in it. At first, I was gonna give them the benefit of the doubt, but honestly? They’re a bunch of crooks. They’ll sell you junk and act like it’s fine, then waste your time when you call them out. Don’t bother—take your business somewhere else. ---

If you need body panels, this place might work, but don’t even think about transmissions or engines. They clearly don’t know what’s actually in stock. I picked up a transmission they said was good—turns out the pan was full of metal shavings and clutch debris. Tried to swap it out, and the next one had a cracked housing. Total waste of time. ---

The second you walk in, the staff acts like you’re bothering them—glaring, sighing, treating you like you’re the problem. Forget about friendly service; they’re rude, impatient, and make you feel like garbage. I waited over three hours just to get help, and not one person bothered to say, *"Hey, sorry for the wait."* They don’t care. You leave frustrated, wondering why you even came, and with zero intention of ever going back. ---
