Short answer: Most junkyards are open Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. About six in ten open on Saturday, usually for a short day. About one in nine opens on Sunday. The yards that do open on Sunday are mostly the self-service chains: Pick-n-Pull, Pick Your Part, Pull-A-Part and U-Pull-&-Pay. What hours do junkyards keep?

On weekdays, 57% of yards open at 8 AM and 47% close at 5 PM. By 5 PM, 82% have closed. Only 11% stay open until 6 PM or later, so a trip after work is not possible at most yards.
Saturday is the day people misjudge. The most common Saturday closing time is noon, and more than half of the yards that open on Saturday have closed by 2 PM. If you plan a Saturday trip, go in the morning.
Which junkyards are open on Sunday?
Of the 3,211 yards, 362 open on Sunday. The large self-service chains account for a big share of them.

Smaller self-service operators open on Sunday too. Wrench-A-Part in Texas, Wilbert's U-Pull It in New York, Harry's U-Pull-It in Pennsylvania, Chesterfield Auto Parts in Virginia and Pull-N-Save in Arizona all publish seven-day hours.
Sunday is not guaranteed even within a chain. Not every location keeps the same hours, so check the page for the yard you plan to visit. Full-service yards, where staff pull the part, are closed on Sunday almost everywhere.

Yes. Among states where we list at least 80 yards with full hours, the share that opens on Sunday runs from about one in five down to about one in sixteen.

The pattern follows the chains. States with many self-service yards have more Sunday hours. States where most yards are small and family-run have fewer.
What time is last entry?
Earlier than closing time. Self-service yards stop letting people in before they close, so that everyone can pay and leave.
Pick-n-Pull, Pull-A-Part, U-Pull-&-Pay and Chesterfield Auto Parts all close the yard 30 minutes before the store. Wrench-A-Part ends entry at 5:30 PM and closes at 6:00 PM. Harry's U-Pull-It stops admission 30 minutes before closing, which is 3:30 PM for most of the week in winter.
Pulling a part takes longer than people expect. Arriving an hour before last entry leaves time for an alternator and not much else. For an engine or a transmission, arrive when the yard opens.
