Tractor Salvage Yards: Where to Buy Used Tractor Parts

Most car junkyards do not carry tractor parts. Here is who does, what each business says on its own website, which used tractor parts are worth buying, what to have ready before you call, and how heavy castings get shipped.

Short answer: Used tractor parts mostly come from farm equipment salvage yards and ag parts dismantlers, not car junkyards. Abilene Machine in Kansas, All States Ag Parts and Burch Store Tractors in North Carolina all say on their own websites that they sell used tractor parts. Have the model and serial number ready before you call. Our own directory is thin here: 8 of 3,629 published listings have a tractor, farm, equipment or ag parts name, and only one of those has a website saying it sells used tractor parts.

Last checked: November 1, 2026. What each business sells comes from its own website. Counts and listings come from our directory.

Why don't car junkyards have tractor parts?

A car yard is built around cars and light trucks, with stock sorted by year, make and model. Farm tractors go by model and serial number instead of the 17-digit VIN on a road car, the castings can weigh more than a person can lift, and very few parts carry over from a car. A general yard might have an old tractor at the back of the lot, but you can't plan a repair around that. Call a yard that buys farm machines for parts.

Which businesses sell used tractor parts?

We read each of these sites. Claims about size are theirs, and we have not checked them.

BusinessWhat its site saysWarranty and shipping
Abilene Machine, KansasUsed parts for John Deere tractors and combines, plus Case IH, New Holland, International and others. Says its salvage yard is one of the largest single sites in the USOne-year warranty on used parts. Says engines get a dynamometer test
All States Ag Parts, based in De Soto, IowaNew, used and remanufactured tractor and combine parts for all makes, including antique brands. Lists 18 locations, 15 in the US and 3 in CanadaOne-year warranty, excluding uses such as tractor pulling and construction work
Burch Store Tractors, Burlington, North CarolinaA farm equipment salvage yard that specializes in row crop IH Farmall tractors. Says it has listed only a fraction of the parts on handShips most orders the same day. Freight is by quote, so ask

All States' locator separates salvage yards from retail stores, but the list we could read does not mark which is which, so ask before you drive to one.

For a search beyond one company, try TractorHouse, a machinery marketplace. Search results show a dismantled machines section there, but the site blocked our tools, so we could not read it.

Are there tractor salvage yards in our directory?

Very few. Of 3,629 published listings, seven have tractor, farm or equipment in the name, one more has ag parts, and the directory has no tractor or farm category. One of the eight, Indiana Automotive Equipment, links to a company that sells vehicle lifts, so it is no use here. The other seven are below.

Which used tractor parts are worth buying?

Abilene Machine's list of popular used parts is a fair start: axle housings and other castings, cabs, crankshafts, blocks and heads, hydraulic pumps, sheet metal, wheel weights, tires and rims, and transmission and PTO parts.

Axle housings, transmission cases, other castingsYes, often the best buyCracks, welded repairs, stripped threads, broken mounting ears
Rims, wheel weights, hoods, fenders, cabsYesRust, bent mounts, cracks around bolt holes, exact fit for your model
Transmission and PTO gearsYes, with a look firstChipped or pitted teeth. Ask for photos

What should you have ready before you call?

Burch Store Tractors asks for as much detail as possible, which is good advice for any of them. Write down the make and exact model, the serial number from the tractor's plate, the year if you know it, gas or diesel, and options that change the part, such as the transmission type.

Then clean the old part and look for numbers. A casting number is formed into the metal when the part is poured. It helps identify the part but is not always the service part number, so give both if you have them.

Heavy castings usually ship on a pallet by truck freight.

How do heavy tractor parts get shipped?

Small parts go by parcel. Castings, cabs and engines go on a pallet by LTL truck freight, and that bill can be a real share of the cost. All States says its free shipping offers leave out oversized and LTL loads, and it adds freight to your invoice. Ask for the delivered price before you say yes.

Ask whether the truck has a liftgate, whether you need a loader on site, and whether a freight terminal pickup costs less. Note any damage on the delivery receipt before you sign. We cover packing and carriers in our post on shipping heavy parts.
